Forscher*innen des Universitätsklinikum Freiburg und des Cluster of Excellence CIBSS - Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies der Universität Freiburg entdecken, wie Mitochondrien nicht nur Energie produzieren, sondern auch Entzündungen beeinflussen. Ob Zellen im menschlichen Körper unter Stress überleben oder sterben, hängt unter anderem von ihren Mitochondrien ab. Wissenschaftler*innen der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Freiburg haben nun gezeigt, dass ein plötzlicher Stopp der Energieproduktion in diesen „Kraftwerken“ der Zellen den normalen Zelltod verhindert und stattdessen eine Entzündungsreaktion auslöst. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eFaW2TcP

Out of over 400 teams from 50+ countries, the team was recognised for outstanding achievements in the field of infectious diseases, winning gold again in 2024 and securing a place among the top 10 OVERGRAD teams.
