It's just one packet. It's just one sachet. Times that by hundreds of households, and you have a potential of thousands of kilograms of waste that could have been dumped or burnt. Thanks to the support from brands taking action for a cleaner planet, and through our partnership with Green Worms - we now prevent all that waste from entering the environment. OK now what? Yep, all that waste now needs to be processed. And let us tell you, processing that waste is no joke! The teams of waste workers who work with this mounting trash need to not only be kept safe, but also be supported with the best equipment to avoid unnecessary extra effort. So, what do we need? 🛞 The right transport vehicles 💻 Conveyor belts 💪 Bailing press (can you imagine doing that with just using human power!) 🟢 Forklifts See the link in the comments for a glimpse of our the full video from our new Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Kerala that we opened last year with Green Worms! This is was a huge step forward in our mission to create a cleaner future. Together with our incredible community the projects are getting bigger and bigger and give us all the chance to clear more waste. Sachets are a major contributor to plastic pollution in the Global South, and are difficult to collect and recycle due to their small size and multilayered design. Earlier this year, we went out onto the ocean with Manuharam, a fisherman in Pondicherry, to learn about what a typical day is like for him, and what motivates him to keep doing what he's doing. And what filled our nets the most? Plastic sachets!!! They are hugely popular due to their low cost per item, and used to package almost everything: cosmetics, instant coffee, soap, condiments and countless other everyday items. But over 855 billion sachets are used every year — enough to circle the Earth six times. WTF! Until there are better solutions available, these sachets are going to continue to add to the mounting plastic pollution crisis, one in which impacts oceans, habitats and communities. We hope that governments and businesses will come together in 2025 and create an alternative to this multilayered issue. In the meantime, we need to make sure what is out there is collected and disposed of correctly, prevented from being dumped and ending up in our oceans. So that is exactly what we're doing in partnership with amazing brands from all over the world and super teams on the ground! Any alternatives that you've seen? Let us know in the comments. #OceanPlastic #PlasticWaste #PlasticPackaging

Settle in folks, it's story time. Introducing Clean Chemnad; how consumer brands are supporting this beautiful coastal town build a cleaner future. 💚 Located in the heart of beautiful Kerala - Chemnad is home to friendly faces, dramatic landscapes and just a few kilometers from the coast. It was also home to a piling plastic pollution problem due to an inefficient waste management system. Plus, the Chandragiri River, with its marvellous history as a lifeline for people in Kasaragod, was being infiltrated with microplastics, damaging critical biological habitats. — until we implemented our project, that is. Well, we didn't exactly just roll in shouting "we're here, panic not". We really wanted to engage the communities and make sure they were fully onboard to our suggested plan to implement a more efficient waste management system. Because engaging the communities is the best way to build lasting change, and truly make strides towards our goal of building a solution to plastic pollution. So before we kicked off our cleanup efforts, we laid out a seven-point plan to make sure locals would benefit from the new waste management system: 1. Meet the community 2. Set out a blueprint plan 3. Carry out a baseline survey 4. Run a collection trial 5. Raise awareness of the program 6. Integrate our app into the collection process 7. Roll out the program You can read more on this seven-point plan here: https://lnkd.in/eH5pKz-9 Our pre-project survey found that over a third of locals (38.6%) said they weren’t familiar with recycling. But now, with over 80% of the community involved in our waste management system. Plus, the project has created jobs for over 40 local women. 💙 How our partner brands make an impact in Chemnad: By committing to funding the collection of plastic waste, our brand partners are enabling us to expand the impact we're having on plastic pollution with projects like Clean Chemnad. Together we're investing in not just preventing plastic pollution, but also investing into building a blueprint for a waste management system model that is repeatable, efficient and rolled out into communities all over the world. But wait... before you go, there is one very important factor in this project and many others. The John Lennon to our Paul McCartney. The Woody to our Buzz... None of this would be possible without our incredible collection partner Green Worms 💚 Partners since 2020, Greenworms' ethos matches CleanHub’s goal of introducing a more circular economy, bringing systemic change in waste management that involves converting plastic into new materials. With the help of the local community and smart solutions, we’re making a positive change. Theeeee end. lol, we wish. There is so much more to do, but we're here for it! #WasteManagement #OceanPlastic #MicroplasticPrevention
