𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔: Recreation homes 🏖️ Over 100 years ago - in the period after World War One - Deutsche Bank, for the first time, sent its employees to summer resorts owned or rented by the bank, by the sea, lakes or in the mountains. After four years of war and malnutrition, many employees were exhausted and needed to be nursed back to health. The recreation homes soon developed into popular holiday destinations for the whole family. Our photo gallery showcases the recreation homes in: Johannaberg in the Teutoburg Forest, where employees were first sent in 1919; Caputh near Potsdam, which was a bus ride away from Berlin; scenic Sellin on the island of Rügen; and Kliffende in the dunes of the North Sea island of Sylt. A look back at an era when employees also shared their down time with colleagues. #TimelessTreasures #History #DeutscheBank 🕰️ 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘺𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 – 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘺 𝘋𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘬’𝘴 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘦.

"What's gone is gone forever." 😰 These words should resonate deeply with all of us. In our latest What Next dossier all about biodiversity, Klement Tockner, Director General of the Senckenberg Nature Research and member of Deutsche Bank's Nature Advisory Panel, paints a bleak picture of the biodiversity crisis, calling it the "greatest crisis humanity is facing". The urgency to act has never been greater, with new research indicating two million species are endangered – double previous estimates. 🌍 Tockner highlights the alarming rate of extinction, driven by factors like habitat loss, climate change, and unsustainable land use. He stresses the need for immediate action, advocating for increased investment in preventative measures like robust species protection and a shift towards rewarding sustainable practices. He calls for innovative solutions, including the responsible use of genetically modified plants and incentivising sustainable practices across industries. 👉 Read the full interview on #dbWhatNext: https://lnkd.in/eR4Dyvy2 #BiodiversityLoss #Sustainability #EnvironmentalProtection #ClimateAction

“Be active, informed and aware” was Holocaust survivor Eve Kugler's message to our staff at an event to commemorate the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass or the November pogrom. Eve was just 6 on November 9, 1938, when a Nazi mob ransacked her home, destroyed her grandfather’s books and marched her father away. That night Jewish homes, synagogues and businesses – including the Kugler’s family store - were targeted in violent and coordinated attacks, she explained, marking a significant upsurge in Nazi persecution of Jews and other minorities. In vivid detail, Eve traced her family’s desperate attempts to escape Germany, and her move first to France, where she was interned, then to New York, where she settled for many years and worked as a journalist. Management Board Member Fabrizio Campelli and co-host Lawrence Shaw welcomed Eve to our London headquarters and emphasised that open dialogue and education are key to eradicating antisemitism as well as other forms of racial and ethnic discrimination. We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to hear a Holocaust survivor’s story first-hand in this event organised by Deutsche Bank’s dbENRICH and Jewish networks and the Holocaust Educational Trust.
