We look back on two exciting days at Berlin Security Conference 2024.   #DiehlDefence was part of the conference program with the panel participation of Stefan Bullmer and an exhibition area on site. We were particularly pleased about the visit of Lieutenant General Günter Katz, Commanding General Air Force Forces Command, and Lieutenant General Thorsten Poschwatta Commander of the German Air Operations Command. In an interesting exchange, the two visitors caught up on the IRIS-T family and commented positively on the rapid delivery of the first IRIS-T SLM fire unit to the German Air Force as well as the support provided for training on the weapon system.   We would like to thank all participants for the interesting discussions and a big thank you to the organization team of the Berlin Security #Conference. RAM-System GmbH (RAMSYS), a joint venture of #DiehlDefence and MBDA Deutschland, has signed a procurement contract with the Dutch procurement authority "The Materiel and IT Command" (COMMIT).   COMMIT jointly procures a total of 7 + 2 Rolling Airframe Missile Launching Systems (RAM GMLS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Belgian #Navy. The Netherlands and Belgium join Germany, Greece and Turkey as European user nations of this highly efficient and agile ship self-defence system. In 2024, RAM was able to prove its capabilities impressively under combat circumstances in the Red Sea keeping ship and crew safe. Meanwhile, the 3rd generation of the weapon system and the 6th generation of missiles is in use. The continuous further development of the weapon system is the cornerstone for the exceptional capability and the outstanding hit probability. #defenceindustry #news

Our team is currently at #Berlin Security Conference 2024, another great highlight towards the end of the year.   Yesterday Stefan Bullmer, Senior Vice President Strategy and Business Development at #DiehlDefence, joined a panel on “Land Capabilities in View of contemporary Conflicts” at this year‘s conference. With other panelists, such as the German Army Chief Lieutenant General Alfons Mais and his French counterpart as well as other industrial representatives, he discussed recent learnings of land warfare, particularly threats by drones and appropriate countermeasures. It was a great exchange between industrial experts, two army chiefs and the knowledgeable audience.   We are looking forward to another exciting conference and exhibition day!   #BSC24 #defenceindustry #security

🛡️The enduring challenge for the military has been to prepare for potential deployment in future scenarios, equipped with the right capabilities and strategies. This involves envisioning and testing different solutions, while engaging industry, academia, and research centres. Earlier this year, the European Defence Agency (EDA) launched the Autonomous Systems Community of Interests (#ASCI) to do just that. It has attracted over 750 members from across the warfare domains. Building on the EDA Action Plan for Autonomous Systems (#APAS), the community held its first conference in Brussels from 13 to 14 November 2024. The aim was not only to delve into the technological challenges and threat landscapes but also to emphasise the need for #ethical guidelines and #standardisation. “The Autonomous System Community of Interests is a cross-directorate effort at EDA, reflecting the need for diverse and complementary perspectives and know-how” André Denk, EDA’s Deputy Chief Executive, told the conference. “The end goal is to ensure Member States’ armed forces are equipped with highly autonomous, effective, and reliable systems as critical assets on the future battlefield” he said. “ASCI stands as a collaborative force, linking civilian and military efforts and fostering essential partnerships. ASCI is not just a network. It is a community with a shared purpose” said Nathalie Guichard, EDA’s Research and Technology Director. “The creation of ASCI has never been more essential. Autonomous systems are reshaping defence strategies and our approach to global security challenges.” ➡️ For further details: https://lnkd.in/dqmHmSzy #EUdefence #AutonomousSystems

EU supports the joint procurement of IRIS-T SLM with Project JAMIE   The EU Commission has approved the funding of 5 multinational projects to promote more efficient procurement of defence equipment between EU member states. The #JAMIE (Joint Air Missile Defence Initiative in Europe) project is one of the projects chosen to strengthen European air defence capabilities. This initiative supports the joint procurement of the fully interoperable IRIS-T SLM air defence system by the EU member states Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Latvia, Estonia and Bulgaria. As part of the #EDIRPA (European Defence Industry Reinforcement through common Procurement Act), the project receives funding of 60 million euros.   The successful deployment with high effectiveness of the IRIS-T SLM systems in Ukraine underlines the importance of this modern system for #European air defence in the medium-range layer. #diehldefence #irist

Impressive insights into complex missile technologies - that's what we offer young professionals and students from various universities and colleges. In October, we welcomed the VDI Young Engineers Bodensee, students from Heilbronn University and a group from the #EUROAVIA student initiative to our site in Überlingen.   The participants had the opportunity to get to know #DiehlDefence and gained exciting insights into missile production and the versatile product portfolio. During each visit, our technical experts highlighted a specialist topic in more detail, such as production #engineering, aerodynamics and propulsion, guidance and navigation or unmanned systems.   We would like to thank the visitor groups for their great interest and would be delighted to welcome some of the participants to the Diehl Defence team in the future. Above all, it is very satisfying to make an important contribution with our products to the defence of our values and freedom. 2️⃣ How would you describe Diehl in one sentence? Successful and on time! The #HYDEF Consortium reaches 2 further important milestones with the Early Maturation Kick-Off Meeting (EM KO) and the Progress Review Meeting (PRM2).   The EM KO marks the beginning of the technology maturation activities. Among other things, #DiehlDefence as Technical Coordinator, worked together with the consortium on the validation of the planned activities, including critical technologies. The meeting also served to assess and advance the current technological maturity level of these technologies.   The HYDEF program is moving forward - we are proud to be part of this consortium.

OCCAR HYDEF Programme EM KO and PRM 2 Milestones Achieved Tres Cantos/Spain, 29-30 October 2024 –The OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) #HYDEF Programme has met the third technical milestone (EM KO) and the third management milestone (PRM2). These achievements were made during meetings held over two days at the Sener facilities. The aim of the Early Maturation Kick-Off Meeting (EM KO) was to validate planned activities, aligning them with the initial proposal, while incorporating critical technologies identified in the pre-feasibility phase. The meeting comprised of all the Participating States (PSs), involved assessing the current Technological Readiness Level (TRL) of these technologies and identifying the resources required to advance their TRLs. The EM KO marks the start of the activities of technology maturation. The activities to be performed in Early Design and Technology Maturation, based on the critical technologies identified in the pre-feasibility phase, were demonstrated to be ready to start. The expected challenges in their developments were laid out, as identified in the Technology Plan. The feasibility phase is then in progress and technical maturation activities have started right after the Early Maturation Kick-off meeting. Following this meeting, the Programme will mainly consist of the definition of the concept for the system, leading to the Concept Selection Milestone (CSM) in August 2025, and the performance of maturation activities, reaching the Early Maturation Mid-Term Review Milestone (EM MTR) in October 2025. The Progress Review Meeting 2 (PRM 2) was held between the Project Coordinator (SMS), the Project Manager of each beneficiary and the OCCAR HYDEF Programme Division. The HYDEF Consortium presented to the OCCAR HYDEF Programme Division the general status of the Programme covering progress, KPIs, schedule review, risk assessment and mitigation, financial, quality control, ethics and other aspects. Both milestones were successfully met on schedule. “Co-funded by the European Union. The panel discussions covered many current and important topics with well-chosen speakers. We were delighted to contribute to the conference program with a presentation held by Sinikka Salchow on the subject of "Integrated Air Defence in an evolving threat landscape".   At the #DiehlDefence booth, our team welcomed numerous high-ranking guests and had the opportunity to engage in interesting exchanges. A special highlight was the visit and the comprehensive discussions with Lieutenant General Thorsten Poschwatta from the German Air Force.   We would like thank the organization team and are already looking forward to the next event! #airdefence #irist #defenceindustry Joint Air Power Competence Centre (JAPCC) Luftwaffe - German Airforce Pictures: © JAPCC
