EHEDG: food safety through hygienic design. With a common goal to advance hygiene, improve food safety, and increase cleaning efficiency and effectiveness during the processing and packaging of food products, EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) brings together stakeholders in the food supply chain. Besides practical guidelines, test procedures and certification, training and education, EHEDG offers an exchange platform for global food professionals to combine collective experience and improve hygienic design. Founded in 1989, EHEDG is a foundation that has lead the way in guiding the food industry in hygienic design. The European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) was founded in 1989 as a non-profit consortium of equipment manufacturers, food producers, suppliers to the food industry, research institutes and universities, public health authorities and governmental organisations. The principal goal of EHEDG is the promotion of safe food by improving hygienic engineering and design in all aspects of food manufacture. EHEDG actively supports European legislation, which requires that handling, preparation processing and packaging of food is done hygienically using hygienic machinery and in hygienic premises according to the food hygiene directive, the machinery directive and the food contact materials directive (see EC Directive 2006/42/EC for Machinery, EN 1672-2 and EN ISO 14159 on Hygiene requirements for the design of machinery). Equipment manufacturers and users are responsible to implement these requirements and EHEDG provides them guidance on the essential hygienic design standards in compliance with national and international legislation. The EHEDG mission is defined as: "EHEDG enables safe food production by providing guidance as an authority on hygienic engineering and design".

On November 12, EHEDG was proud to participate in the EYE (𝐄𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐆 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐅𝐅𝐨𝐒𝐓) mentorship session at the 38th EFFoST International Conference 2024 in 𝐁𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐬, where we launched the second round of the EYE Mentorship Programme in collaboration with @European Federation of Food Science and Technology! 🗨️ During the conference, Felix Schottroff (Chair of #YoungEFFoST) and Adwy van den Berg RM (Director of EHEDG) kicked off a special session, followed by an engaging workshop led by Jocelyn Rebbens on effective communication. The LIFO method was used to match the 8 mentor-mentee pairs, carefully selected to ensure the best fit based on personal and professional dynamics, setting the stage for a successful mentorship experience. 💡 Later, there was a session on career and personal development for young scientists and industry professionals, with Jocelyn discussing the importance of self-branding. We also heard from mentors and mentees from the first round, who shared their valuable experiences and insights on how the programme has contributed to their professional growth. 🚀Hein Timmerman (EHEDG President) delivered a compelling plenary session titled Food Safety Starts with Hygienic Design. A big thank you to all the mentors, mentees, and participants who joined our sessions. We look forward to seeing what the pairs will achieve together and wish everyone a successful programme! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭? Mentors and mentees will now have the time to work one-on-one, focusing on the individual preferences of the students—whether personal, professional, or both. They’ll strengthen their connection and explore the rhythm and dynamic that best benefits them. No pair is the same, which makes the programme both unique and valuable!\ 👀 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞?
