Spielt #Klimaschutz in einer schwarz-roten Koalition noch eine Rolle, nachdem das im Wahlkampf kaum der Fall war? Dazu habe ich für den Tagesspiegel meine Meinung aufgeschrieben, neben der Wirtschaftssweisen-Vorsitzenden Monika Schnitzer und Christoph Bals von Germanwatch e.V. Meine Meinung dazu: ✅ Klimaschutz ist keine Kür, sondern eine wirtschaftliche Notwendigkeit. Deutschland kann nur mit einer smarten, effizienten Energie- und Klimapolitik langfristig wettbewerbsfähig bleiben. ✅Das Aufgabenheft für CDU Deutschlands und Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (SPD) ist voll. Bezahlbare ⚡️Strompreise und gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz sind Grundvoraussetzungen für den klimaneutralen “Business Case” in 🇩🇪 ✅ Eine Steilvorlage dafür kam gestern aus 🇪🇺 mit dem #CleanIndustrialDeal. Die nächste Bundesregierung sollte die Chance ergreifen und zum Taktgeber für nachhaltige Wettbewerbsfähigkeit werden. Sie kann enorme Potenziale heben beim flexiblen Energiemarkt, Leitmärkten für klimaneutrale Grundstoffe und Mobilisierung von Privatkapital. 🔎 The 🇪🇺 #CleanIndustrialDeal is expected to provide a strong framework for industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation. But after reviewing the details, key gaps remain. Yesterday, Table.Briefings published an analysis of the initial reactions. My assessment, shared during a media briefing on the expectations and implications, was also featured 👇    ⚠️ What is totally missing is a pragmatic approach to reboot the #hydrogen ramp-up. Instead the EU finds itself in the middle of a hydrogen crisis—investments are stalling, projects are being delayed due to excessive costs, and uncertainty prevails along the entire value chain. ⚡️ Energy prices remain the biggest challenge for European industry. The Affordable Energy Action Plan opens a window of opportunity for the EU and the next German government to address this issue. 📌 Expanding PPAs beyond large corporations to SME  📌 Flexibility must become the second pillar of the electricity system, alongside renewables to bring electricity and system costs down 📌 Lowering grid fees via public support can help, but only if paired with structural reform to tackle the root causes of high prices. The Clean Industrial Deal is a an important impulse focussing on lower energy prices, lead markets, guarantees and tax cuts. The next weeks will show, in how far it can become a breakthrough. ✨ Unveiling the speakers of our first-panel discussion 👇 The first panel of our event "What Future for Steelmaking in the EU?" tackles a key challenge: ensuring the resilience of primary steelmaking while securing enough hydrogen for its decarbonisation. With steel responsible for over 5% of EU emissions, the sector must transition from coking coal to fossil-free hydrogen amid high energy costs, weak demand, and growing global competition. While projects like HYBRIT and SALCOS, and startups like Stegra show promise, the scale of change is immense—requiring 165 TWh of electricity for electrolysis alone by 2030. 🚨 Germany needs a Carbon Management Strategy 2.0! With the end of the 🚦traffic light coalition government, the Carbon Management Strategy #CMS stalled - along with the roadmap for #CCS & #CCU in Germany. A major setback for industry and climate policy. However, a #CMS2.0 could become a key priority in the next legislative period. Gestern wurden die Leaks zum 🇪🇺 #CleanIndustrialDeal und #AffordableEnergy Action Plan bekannt. Das Handelsblatt hat diese bereits einer prägnanten Analyse unterzogen und mich nach meiner Einschätzung gefragt. Meine Takaways nach der ersten Lektüre sind: 1️⃣ Der Schwerpunkt der Vorschläge, die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der europäischen Industrie zu steigern und Strompreise zu senken gehen im Prinzip in die richtige Richtung. Die zu erwartenden Fortschritte sind dabei aber "graduell" und sicher kein Durchbruch mit neuen wegweisenden Ideen. 2️⃣ Der Fokus auf #Leitmärkte, den Hebel der öffentlichen Beschaffung, #Garantien (z.B. für #PPA für KMUs) und #TaxCuts, ist industriepolitisch sinnvoller statt sich nur auf Subventionen zu verlassen. 3️⃣ Mitunter am spannendsten finde ich die Vorschläge im Bereich der #Netze und #Flexibilität. Zwei Schlaglichter dazu: ✅ Der Affordable Energy Action Plan gibt einen Impuls um mit Flexibilität Strom- und Systemkosten zu senken. Insbesondere für Deutschland ist das relevant: Die vom BMWK angekündigte #Flexibilitätsagenda ist überfällig und eine Reform der #Netzentgeltsystematik dringend geboten, um dieses Potenzial zur Kostensenkung zu nutzen. ✅ Ein Absenken der Netzentgelte durch staatliche #Zuschüsse wird ebenso von den Vorschlägen adressiert. Dies kann zwar kurzfristig helfen, entbehrt aber nicht einer strukturellen Reform der #Netzentgeltsystematik die Flexibilität mehr anreizt. 4️⃣ Immerhin wird die Tür für einen pragmatischeren #Wasserstoffhochlauf ein bisschen aufgemacht. Auch beim #Quadrell kam #Energie & #Klima nicht die nötige Bedeutung zu. Umso wichtiger zu wissen, wie die Parteien sich aufstellen. DER SPIEGEL hat mich nach meiner Einschätzung zur Energie- und Klimapolitik der CDU Deutschlands gefragt. Meine Einschätzung ist: ✅ Friedrich Merz und die Union wollen wichtige Elemente der bisherigen Energie- und Klimapolitik weiterentwickeln. Allerdings mit einem deutlich stärkerem Fokus auf #Kosteneffizienz. ✅ Den bisherigen Ansatz und bestehende Instrumente hinsichtlich Effizienz auf den Prüfstand zu stellen ist richtig, da wir uns - auch mit Blick auf die geopolitische Lage - Ineffizienz schlicht nicht mehr leisten können. Das ist auch sozial gerechter, da geringere Kosten insgesamt, einfacher sozial verteilt werden können. ✅ Wichtig ist auch, dass wir nach der Wahl nicht eine Debatte zur Verschiebung des #Klimaneutralitätsziels 2045 lostretten. Ein stabiles Ziel gibt Politik, Gesellschaft und Unternehmen die notwendige Sicherheit, um Rahmenbedingungen zu verbessern, Investitionen zu tätigen und Akzeptanz zu fördern. ⛔ Die Debatte um eine Aufschiebung lenkt vom Wesentlichen ab - nämlich die Herausforderungen auf dem Weg zur Klimaneutralität und die nachhaltige Stärkung von Deutschlands Wettbewerbsfähigkeit jetzt anzugehen.
