The continent of Africa contains 60% of the unused farmable land worldwide, but much of the continent lacks meteorological data. This impacts their ability to make informed farming decisions and qualify for crop insurance. TAHMO aims to remedy this situation with a goal of setting up a vast weather network across the regions of subSaharan Africa, hoping to increase growers' ability to succeed at farming, which could ultimately positively impact the global food supply. Over the past decade, TAHMO has made significant strides. They have built a network of 600+ weather stations, empowering communities and driving sustainable solutions. From helping farmers adapt to climate change to advancing scientific research, TAHMO is a beacon of innovation for the continent. If you know what to look for, you can harness powerful insights from a soil moisture release curve. But if you’re using the wrong instrumentation, don’t have the correct tools to evaluate the curve, or choose the wrong model to fit the curve, your insights can be drastically wrong. Revisit this 30-minute webinar where research scientist and Director of Scientific Outreach, Leo Rivera, illustrates what insights you can glean from your soil moisture release curve data and how to get everything you can from this soil fingerprint. Germany has committed to generating at least 80% of their electrical consumption from renewable sources by 2030 and being climate-neutral by 2045. Achieving these lofty goals requires the newly built energy sources, such as wind, geothermal, and solar power, to be integrated into the grid and the existing infrastructure to be updated. With communities and governmental bodies pressuring the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) to find alternatives to overhead power lines and combat the unpredictability of power loss as it travels, their solution is to bury the power cables in the ground in a project known as SuedLink. However, for this project to succeed, there are substantial hurdles they need to overcome. Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/gnSfh7nd #energy #watercontent #thermalconductivity #innovation

Soil moisture release curves (also called soil-water characteristic curves or soil water retention curves) are like physical fingerprints, unique to each soil type. Researchers use them to understand and predict the fate of water in a particular soil at a specific moisture condition. Moisture release curves answer critical questions such as: at what moisture content will the soil experience permanent wilt? How long should I irrigate? Or will water drain through the soil quickly or be held in the root zone? They are powerful tools used to predict plant water uptake, deep drainage, runoff, and more.
