Battery Storage Fire Risk: Facts vs. Myths Battery storage systems (BSS), pivotal for the energy transition, have faced public concern over fire risks. A recent study by the renowned RWTH Aachen University reveals key insights: • The probability of a home storage system (HSS) fire is 50 times lower than a general house fire and comparable to that of household tumble dryers. • Electric vehicles (EVs) are 4 times less likely to catch fire than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. • Photovoltaic (PV) systems exhibit an even lower fire risk, being 3 times safer than HSS. Indonesia exceeds 700MW installed solar PV capacity!! Although Indonesia has installed 700MW of solar PV power, the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) cautions that this development is "inadequate" to meet the global climate target. According to IESR, Indonesia installed 717.71MW of solar PV capacity in August 2024. On-grid solar PV capacity nearly tripled in 2023 with the installation of the 145MW Cirata floating solar PV project. India: 11.3 GW module capacity, 2 GW solar cell in H1 2024! According to the market research firm Mercom India, India has added 11.3 GW of PV module annual capacity and 2 GW of solar cells in the first half of 2024. Cumulatively, the country has reached an annual nameplate capacity of 77.2 GW for modules and 7.6 GW for solar cells as of June 2024. 2024: Global solar additions to hit 593GW !! According to Ember, The world is on pace to add 593GWM of new solar power capacity in 2024, a 29% increase over the capacity added in 2023. According to a recent S&P Global estimate, approximately 750GW of solar trackers will be installed between 2024 and 2030, with North America predicted to be the largest global market for solar trackers in the future years. Around 60GW of trackers were deployed globally in 2023, and over 80GW are anticipated in 2024, according to S&P Global's Solar Tracker Market Report 2024. More than 100GW of trackers will be deployed globally by 2027, with the majority of them coming from the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and North American markets.
