Happy, Healthy, and Successful 2025. A Fresh Start, Any Day: If the New Year’s Day excitement has already faded and you feel like you've missed your chance to kickstart change, let us assure you: science says otherwise. The truth is, you don’t need January 1st to begin again. Any moment can be your “fresh start.” It could be the following Monday, the first day of the month, your birthday, or today. Here’s how you can use the ODE mindset to reset and establish a new habit, no matter the date: 1. Clarify Your Decision Question Ask yourself: What change do I genuinely want to make? A straightforward question leads to a clear path. 2. Define Your Criteria What does success look like? What small, achievable steps will build toward it? Break it down into measurable and actionable goals. 3. Group and Prioritize For example, organize your goals into physical, mental, or professional categories. Then, rank what matters most to you to maintain focus. 4. Discover Options, Start Small, Validate Often Choose one actionable step to start today. Measure your progress with simple metrics—time spent, repetitions completed, or even a daily “yes” or “no” check-in. 5. Commit to Consistency Over Perfection Every day offers a new opportunity to build momentum. Missed a day? That’s okay. The following “fresh start” is just around the corner. Remember, the future is not necessarily built on one magical day but nurtured over time. So whether today, the following Monday, or your birthday feels like the right time, embrace it. Start small, stay intentional, and watch the impact unfold.

Part III: A Bigger Picture By day seven, he’d tested the idea on personal stuff. Should he invest more time painting or zone out online? Seeing that the opposite wasn’t absurd but aimless, he realized painting was a real choice, not just what everyone told him was “good.” That’s when he took it a step further. “Can I test democracy the same way?” he asked before we finished. “Not just my after-school plan, but how we pick leaders and make policies. Are we choosing this system or just accepting it?” He didn’t need me to answer. I could see it in his eyes; he’d learned to think for himself and question defaults instead of going along. He was questioning the democratic system, not to undermine it, but to understand it better and see if it truly aligns with his values and intentions. The final bell rang. He nodded, turned, and walked out. I knew I wouldn’t see him taking things at face value again. Once you start thinking like that, really thinking, you don’t go back. It doesn’t matter if it’s about your hobbies or the world around you. You keep questioning because now you know how. What are the #DecisionsThatTrulyMatter you plan for 2025? Part II: The Unexpected Question On day five of the workshop, most students understood the “opposite test” well enough. They nodded and smiled, treating it like a neat mental trick. But this kid waited until everyone left, then asked, “How do I know if a decision is reasonable?” He wasn’t looking for a canned answer; he seemed annoyed by the usual advice. I repeated the method: think of the opposite. If it’s too dumb to consider, you’re not making a real choice. He frowned and said, “But what if everything feels like the default? How do I break out of that?” Just then, someone across the room called my name. I glanced away for a second. When I looked back, he was already gone, leaving his question in the air... to be continued. Have you reflected on your decisions recently? #decisionmaking #learning #reflect #resilience #education #capacitybuilding

Part I: The Note in Hand As 2024 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued support and for being such an integral part of the ODE journey and reflect on some stories we experienced: Earlier in 2024, we facilitated seven-day decision-training workshops using the ODE mobile app. I sat alone in the now-quiet classroom, flipping through the students’ reflections. Most were about small stuff: trying new hobbies and getting better grades. But one card stood out: a 16-year-old who used to say almost nothing in class wrote about “stewardship” and decisions that matter. He mentioned applying a test he learned, imagining the opposite choice, to his own life and even to the way society runs. It made me think back to when he first questioned everything, not just for himself, but for something bigger... to be continued. What was your first learning in decision-making? #decisionmaking #learning #reflectin #resilience #education #capacitybuilding

This is lit. One ad that can change the world today. Benedict Cumberbatch is the latest actor to lend his talents to show the impact pensions are having on our planet. Where our pensions go matters. I discovered this the hard way. Three years ago, I realised 2% of my pension was going to BP and Shell 1% to tobacco 1% to gambling These are things I’d never choose to invest in. And yet every year some of my hard earned cash had been going there. I was shocked. While getting clarity on my pension proved harder than changing a pension chairman’s mind on profit vs. the planet. So I set up MotherTree. In 2021, Our goal was to shift £1bn into the green economy by 2025. And we did that a year early. Change in pensions is possible. But we each need to take a stance on that. So thanks to Make My Money Matter for this brilliant video, Showing the true feelings of many pension chairmen. ♻️ Repost this to help your network Follow Dan Sherrard-Smith for more

Today at the Berlin Science Week 2024, a thought-provoking 90-minute session unfolded, bringing together two dynamic voices: Lubna Hayatleh-Heinke a champion of female migrant empowerment, and Ingo Günther, a versatile actor and musician. Hosted by Gordian, the talk seamlessly merged personal storytelling, art, and cultural insights to explore the profound impact of decision-making on our identities and lives. Through Lubna's experience of navigating a new cultural landscape as a Syrian refugee and Ingo's reflections on the freedom and constraints within the creative arts, the conversation highlighted the universal yet highly contextual nature of decisions. The dialogue challenged the audience to rethink their decision-making processes, inviting them to consider how cultural values, intuition, and societal expectations shape our daily choices.
