Today, aircraft manufacturers are dealing with operational challenges that threaten their ability to deliver to their market potential. ✈️ Companies that are facing ramp-up challenges often have several common weaknesses. These include inadequate production preparation throughout the year, a high level of “flow offenders”, such as missing parts and sequence disturbances, and an unclear path toward effective industrialization. Addressing these issues is crucial for improving performance and ensuring a foundation for sustained growth. At the same time, planning factories with an efficient, smart-factory-driven approach will lead to leaner and more sustainable production, unlocking additional hidden potential. Porsche Consulting has identified three key steps to ensure a smooth take-off: ➡️ Define top-level targets for the future desired state, such as achieving a reduction in cycle and lead times ➡️ Create an integrated improvement masterplan that aligns industrialization steps along the value stream ➡️ Develop holistic mid-term gap analysis and implementation concepts for further scaling As efforts are ramped up, key factors such as clear baseline metrics and consistent production flow must not be overlooked, while at the same time ambitiously striving toward creating the factory of the future. #Aviation #Aerospace #SmartFactorySolution #Sustainability

Globalization is entering a new era with growing geopolitical uncertainty. How can European companies navigate these escalating risks effectively? In the last 10 years, the number of conflicts has almost doubled, while the strategic rivalry between the world powers is growing. Global supply chains, access to raw materials, and advanced technology are deeply affected by this struggle. The primacy of free trade is coming under pressure as international trade dependencies are increasingly being used to assert geopolitical interests. European companies must integrate geopolitical factors into their strategies to strengthen transatlantic cooperations and showcase their contributions to the US economy and society. Together with our strategic partner Agora Strategy, Porsche Consulting has identified essential levers for reviewing a company’s' footprint due to changing parameters: 🌍 European businesses may face pressure to substitute their exports to the US with local production and must brace themselves for economic volatility. 🌍 European businesses need to carefully analyze their growth potential in the US market and adjust their global footprint, possibly expanding their value chain. 🌍 A 10-year outlook should assess whether an industry segment will experience stronger growth in the US or China, as sustaining business activity in both markets is becoming increasingly challenging. 🌍 The changes in the US administration will be profound and long-term. Entrepreneurial action must take these components into account. #Globalization #Geopolitics #Europe #EconomicStrategy #TransatlanticRelations #SupplyChain

The digitalization of the construction industry is advancing rapidly, with a strong focus on Building Information Modeling (BIM). But how can construction machinery manufacturers contribute to further increasing efficiency on construction sites through the use of autonomous and interoperable machines? At this year’s BIM World MUNICH, Christoph Remmers, Associate Partner Industrial Goods, discussed key trends and requirements to enable a autonomous and interoperable future on construction sites: ➡ Providing a real benefit for contractors and operators: Autonomous functions and digital solutions will only succeed if they create real value for contractors or machinery fleet operators. Examples include continuous transparency of construction progress, digital end-to-end processes from planning to invoicing, improved machine efficiency enabling faster project completion with fewer machines, and reduced fuel consumption. ➡ Common data language: Contractors and fleet operators seek transparency on construction progress and machine data from a single source—independent of the machine manufacturer. Unified and standardized data languages are essential to enable cross-manufacturer collaboration, ensure transparency, and deliver real value to customers. ➡ Openness and Vigilance: Construction machinery manufacturers need to be open to both innovation and collaboration. In addition to developing digital and autonomous functions for their machines, they must also look beyond the obvious. Technological leaps are expected that could have a significant impact and make some functions obsolete—such as humanoid robots. ➡ Strategy and business model upgrade: Existing strategies and business models need to be reassessed and upgraded. Digital and autonomous functions will shift OEMs' business focus from selling machines to offering service and rental models. #Construction #Machinery #Digitization #BIMuc24

What is needed to ensure a strong transport network in Germany—nationally and internationally, for both passengers and freight? 🚄 Passengers and commercial freight customers alike expect punctual and reliable service both day and night. And that requires a rail infrastructure that is sufficiently dimensioned and resistant to failure. For years, however, the network in Germany has been shrinking. And many of its remaining tracks and shunts need repairs. Too few of the signal towers and systems are state of the art. Because of this overall situation, lines are overcrowded, and services can be delayed due to technical problems and corrective maintenance. Yet without stable support, the rail system cannot withstand the pressures it has long been facing. Is there a solution? Mobility expert Marc Zacherl, Senior Partner and Global Lead Transportation at Porsche Consulting, is convinced that greater stability when planning infrastructure projects and more reliability in the funding for longer-term future investments would help structure rail services to meet demand. In short, the rail system needs greater entrepreneurial scope in order to develop more freely. Uncertain planning also affects business partners, service providers, locomotive and car makers, and contractors for large-scale construction projects. It also affects cargo companies that seek to use environmentally friendly rail services. Porsche Consulting wanted to know the crucial concerns and ideas of companies and organizations that work closely together with the rail system, and spoke with leading experts from Alstom, ARS Altmann AG - Automobillogistik, Firmengruppe Max Bögl, and DVF Deutsches Verkehrsforum. The gigafactory concept was first developed roughly a decade ago in response to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions, electric vehicles, and energy products. Companies operating gigafactories aim to produce batteries at significantly lower cost through economies of scale, innovation, and vertical integration. Today’s growing battery market sees ambitious newcomers ramping up capacities to compete against the established market leaders. Porsche Consulting has identified critical elements that can help better answer the question: What does it take to master the large-scale industrialization of battery cells? ▶️ The market The battery market is projected to continue growing rapidly through 2035; however, not all announced capacities will be realized due to the significant funding and industrialization risks. ▶️ Key challenges Significant performance gaps between newcomers and market leaders are recognizable across all main cost drivers. Eight key challenges must be mastered by newcomers to become competitive. ▶️ Topics to pull ahead of the competition Most market leaders must work on five main action fields to reach the next level of performance. ▶️ The industrialization blueprint The blueprint approach can help address the challenges one step at a time and is applicable to every maturity level of industrialized cell manufacturing. Find out more about what it takes to master battery manufacturing in the Porsche Consulting Strategy Paper “Gigafactories, Giga-challenges”: https://lnkd.in/eryZEW55 #Battery #Manufacturing #Gigafactories #Sustainability #EV
