📆 PCS Trainings 2025! One more year, the Rail Freight Corridors will be hosting a training, which focuses on the corridor specific functions in Path Coordination System (PCS), and provides you with valuable, practical insights needed for requesting Capacity on the Rail Freight Corridors for timetable 2026.   The RFCs C-OSS Managers, in close cooperation with RailNetEurope (RNE)'s CM IT team, will ensure the training enhances your knowledge by introducing you to (new) features and functions in PCS in general; informing you about the news for TT2026 and giving you the chance to practice live with individual and corridor-specific exercises. The trainings, held in English language, will take place in 5 different countries across Europe. 𝗜𝗖𝗠 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 - 𝗔𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗲 Tonight a cargo train collided with a construction vehicle near Dorsfeld (line Aachen-Cologne). Due to this accident, this line is closed. The exact extent of the damage cannot yet be estimated, but the closure will last at least until Monday. Due to the expected minimum duration of >3 days, the ICM processes have been activated by DB InfraGO. There is one capacity slot available per day and direction on all mentioned sections. Looking back to a fruitful and constructive RAG meeting last Thursday in Brussels. It was the first RAG meeting in a 'Full merged' setting, in the light of the merger with our colleagues of Rail Freight Corridor Rhine-Alpine EWIV to the new RFC 'North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean'. Main topic was the new organisation of the RAG meetings and how we can keep up and strengthen the cooperation and dialog in the RAG platform.

Competition is good for the rail market! 😉🎯 The raison d’être of ScanMed RFC is to contribute to the creation of a competitive European rail freight network. As an international market-oriented Corridor firmly supporting European market liberalisation, we are therefore pleased - and perhaps hardly surprised - to read the findings of a recent study released by the European Commission which, in a nutshell, highlights the benefits of competition in both passenger and freight rail services. 📒🔍 Based on an analysis of the Croatian, French, German, Italian, Polish, and Swedish rail markets as well as on the case studies of Rail Freight Corridor Rhine-Alpine EWIV, Rail Freight Corridor North Sea – Mediterranean, and the Mediterranean Rail Freight Corridor, the report shows that increased EU-wide competition has led to significant reductions in ticket prices for rail passenger and in freight transport costs, with efficiency gains visible across all aspects. 💡 For freight, this generally translated into: 📊 Stable or lower prices 📊 Higher service quality and reliability 📊 Stable or higher demand 📊 Higher market share of non-incumbents 📊 Vertical integration 📊 Increased RU cost efficiency Naturally, there is still a long way to go. Infrastructure requires further investment and enhanced interoperability, digitalisation, timetabling services, and traffic management. However, fret not: we are working to make these much-needed improvements a reality. Through international cooperation in the RFC, IMs, RUs, terminals and other key rail stakeholders can strengthen competition across the European market. 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴 Last week, we had a very fruitful TAG meeting in Duisburg. During this meeting, members from the Rail Freight Corridor Rhine-Alpine EWIV and Rail Freight Corridor North Sea – Mediterranean had the opportunity to visit duisport - Duisburger Hafen AG⚓, the world’s largest inland port. Among the key topics discussed was the important role of the Terminal Advisory Group in future cooperation in light of the new TEN-T regulation. We would like to extend our thanks to Markus Bangen, the CEO of duisport ⚓ and the TAG speaker of the Rhine-Alpine corridor, for the warm welcome and for hosting the meeting, as well as to all participants Hupac Group, Port of Rotterdam, Port of Genoa, UIRR, SBB CFF FFS, ProRail, DB InfraGO, SNCF Réseau, Infrabel, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, TVS, BLS AG, Federal Office of Transport FOT RailNetEurope (RNE), both in person and online, who joined us in Duisburg.

𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 🎉 The approximately 200-kilometer Karlsruhe-Basel upgraded and new line plays a crucial role in both regional and international rail traffic. Construction work was completed on schedule, allowing train services to resume on the Rhine Valley Railway. The section between Rastatt and Baden-Baden was successfully completed, significantly advancing the Karlsruhe-Basel railway project and laying the groundwork for the future opening of the Rastatt tunnel. Following this intensive construction phase, DB will continue work on the section of track between the new tunnel and the connection to the Rhine Valley Railway until 2025. The tunnel is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026, with no further closures anticipated. In total, 427 freight trains, equivalent to 16,000 truckloads, were successfully rerouted via the Wörth (Rhine)–Lauterbourg–Strasbourg–Kehl route to rejoin the Rhine Valley Railway in Offenburg. As a potential example for the future, the project is now being evaluated by the participating RUs and IMs to gain insights for possible future cross-border re-routings. 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟯 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 - 𝗚𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 Both tubes of the Gotthard Tunnel have been open to freight and passenger traffic again since Monday, 2 September. The western tube of the world's longest railway tunnel (57 km) had been closed since 10 August 2023 following a derailment which led to diversions within Switzerland.
