Storm mode activated, miles gained: Interim results of Boris Herrmann's second Vendée Globe More than a month has passed in the Vendée Globe and Boris Herrmann is now in 8th place in the race. Thanks to the strong winds in the Southern Ocean, he was able to make up places and gain further miles on his competitors. The days and nights in the Southern Ocean are exhausting. Repairs on deck kept Boris awake for a whole night. But now, he says, he has activated “storm mode”. He sails with the small Reef 3 sail, which is unusual, but gives him the necessary stability in 30 knots of wind. His strategy allows him to sail ahead of the storm and stay in manageable conditions. Albatrosses and tiny islands line Boris' path through the rough waters of the south. He has now recently sailed past Cape Leeuwin, the most south-westerly point of the Australian mainland. The next milestone is Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he will reach this important milestone by January 1st, as planned. Until then, we wish Boris favourable weather conditions and that he can make up more nautical miles and places! According to his own statement, he is not yet in the Christmas spirit, despite a few cinnamon star biscuits and an Advent calendar on board. But maybe he'll get into the festive spirit when the weather improves. More than a month ago, 40 IMOCA sailors set off on a journey around the globe in the single-handed Vendée Globe race. Germany's most famous racing sailor, Boris Herrmann, has already had to cope with a few setbacks, but is still sailing consistently in the top third of the contestants. Thanks to skilful navigation and the strong winds in the Southern Ocean, Boris has managed to make up ground and has been closing in on the leaders. However, the path ahead is anything but easy: the challenges of the race are as rough as the waters he is crossing. Milestones and new challenges: Boris Herrmann is now sailing in the Indian Ocean On Monday, December 2nd, 2024, at 14:33 UTC, Boris Herrmann rounded the Cape of Good Hope after 22 days, 2 hours and 31 minutes at sea. A major milestone in his second circumnavigation as part of the Vendée Globe 2024-2025! Typical for the region, the conditions were challenging. With rough sea and gusty winds, Boris battled his way through the Agulhas current and passed Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the African continent. Now Boris is sailing in the Indian Ocean and thus once again in challenging waters. But he is optimistic. He aims to reach the next milestone of Cape Horn by January 1. Boris demonstrated exceptional strength before in the current stretch in the Ocean Race 2022-2023. Between the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Horn, he caught up a backlog of 600 nautical miles and reached Cape Horn in first place, which earned him the Roaring Forties Trophy. Once again, we wish Boris every success in this exciting part of the race! Current weather conditions indicate a good chance for Boris to catch up with the leading sailors. In Team Malizia's Race Tracker you can view Boris' placement, his current location and the route he has travelled at any time: https://lnkd.in/eFb6Rxkd #schuetz #BorisHerrmann #sailing #VendeeGlobe

Skipper Boris Herrmann has reached another milestone in his Vendée Globe solo circumnavigation, crossing the equator and heading for the Cape of Good Hope. He passed his favourite island, Fernando de Noronha, for the 50th time, he says, without setting foot on it. One day he would like to fulfil his dream and visit the island. Germany's most famous sailor is currently in 11th place. But conditions are unstable, as Boris points out: "Patience often leads to better results than quick decisions and frequent changes of strategy". Despite the challenging weather conditions, he is showing impressive speed and is currently sailing faster than the race leaders. Will he be able to close the gap and overtake some of his rivals? The excitement is building every day - but so is the challenge: Boris is navigating the demanding waters of the Southern Ocean, where extreme weather and high winds are the order of the day. His mental toughness and the support of his team will be crucial to successfully completing the next stages. Follow Boris' exciting journey live and keep up to date with Team Malizia's race tracker: https://lnkd.in/eFb6Rxkd #schuetz #BorisHerrmann #sailing #VendeeGlobe
