SCHÜTZ subsidiary Remitack invests in a new washing line for plastic drums   The Belgian reconditioning specialist Remitack is expanding its capacities with a new fully automated washing plant for plastic drums. The new plant of the SCHÜTZ subsidiary, which was put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2024, meets the highest technical requirements and ensures sustainable processes in drum reconditioning. Great news for the #Gulf region: NPF and SCHÜTZ are bringing the ECOBULK IBC to Saudi Arabia!   We at SCHÜTZ are delighted to announce the new licence partnership with National Plastic Factory (NPF). From 2026 our 1,000 litre ECOBULK IBCs will be coming off the production line directly in Saudi Arabia. From there they will be distributed throughout the #GCC region.   Near #Dammam, the heart of the Saudi Arabian oil industry, NPF will build a state-of-the-art, regionally anchored production facility using original SCHÜTZ technology. This means that production will take place on site using our own machinery. In addition, steel and plastic components will be sourced from our central production facilities.   Between the fear of heights and lightning strikes: Boris Herrmann's most challenging leg of the Vendée Globe   German skipper Boris Herrmann has not only proven his mental strength in the Vendée Globe over the past few weeks but has also once again demonstrated his exceptional sailing skills.   Despite extreme conditions in the Southern Ocean and Pacific, he managed to maintain his position. While the three leading sailors were able to extend their lead due to favorable conditions, Boris continues to be at the forefront of the chasing pack. Shortly before Christmas, he was the seventh sailor to reach Cape Horn. This stage finish also marked the start of the deciding, final phase of the race.   But the Atlantic welcomed him with anything but tranquillity: one of the toughest storms of his career not only brought thundering waves, but also a lightning strike that paralyzed the central systems of his Malizia - Seaexplorer. Thanks to his impressive resilience, Boris was able to repair several damages and stabilize the boat again. Another highlight was his mast ascent to a height of 29 meters to carry out repairs to the so-called “Arbalète” - which allowed him to once again overcome his fear of heights. Storm mode activated, miles gained: Interim results of Boris Herrmann's second Vendée Globe   More than a month has passed in the Vendée Globe and Boris Herrmann is now in 8th place in the race. Thanks to the strong winds in the Southern Ocean, he was able to make up places and gain further miles on his competitors.   The days and nights in the Southern Ocean are exhausting. Repairs on deck kept Boris awake for a whole night. But now, he says, he has activated “storm mode”. He sails with the small Reef 3 sail, which is unusual, but gives him the necessary stability in 30 knots of wind. His strategy allows him to sail ahead of the storm and stay in manageable conditions.   Albatrosses and tiny islands line Boris' path through the rough waters of the south. He has now recently sailed past Cape Leeuwin, the most south-westerly point of the Australian mainland. The next milestone is Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he will reach this important milestone by January 1st, as planned. Until then, we wish Boris favourable weather conditions and that he can make up more nautical miles and places! According to his own statement, he is not yet in the Christmas spirit, despite a few cinnamon star biscuits and an Advent calendar on board.
