Meet 👋 Fenne Geelhuijzen and 👋 Tatiana Hernandez from #RemakingtheStreet Summer School 2024 as we 🛠️build parklets for the summer🌞 in Munich. Their journey has taken them through an incredible learning experience. through the EIT Urban Mobility Master School program. In the first year, they were together at UPC in Barcelona 🇪🇸, and now, for the second year, Fenne is heading to Stockholm 🇸🇪 while Tatiana is off to Eindhoven 🇳🇱. Throughout this journey, they’ve dived deep into theory and designed practical solutions. One of the most valuable tools they’ve used is the “#FlowersOfProximity 🌸” which helps them understand daily commuting needs. This tool requires them to think about what is most important in their daily lives and how different personas commute daily. It was fascinating to explore individual needs based on age, gender, and interests based on the workshop conduceted by María José Zúñiga Solórzano and Benjamin Büttner. 🔨Building the parklet was a highlight of their experience, applying their theoretical knowledge to real-life construction while making the street a better place for all. This amazing summer school is made possible by the TUM Accessibility Planning at Technical University of Munich, humankind, and EIT Urban Mobility, co-funded by the European Union 🇪🇺 We wish all the students the greatest of success on this incredible journey with us! 🌟📚 Staff: Ana R., Benjamin Büttner, Mario Raimondi Pruss, Lior Steinberg, George Liu PhD, Natsumi Maekawa, María José Zúñiga Solórzano, Simone Aumann and contributions from an excellent lineup of speakers! The #PlayStreet of Start with Children Summit was a happy place for everyone!
Recap of the outstanding Start with Children Summit held on 28-29 May 2024 in Bratislava: Ana R. and Benjamin Büttner were involved in activating the vibrant Play Street, while showcasing tools to playfully transform our streets based on the needs of young and the young at heart. 🌸 #FlowersOfProximity: The Play Street bloomed with our Flowers of Proximity. Aligned with the #15minuteCity concept, this activity enabled everyone, especially children, to envision their ideal neighbourhoods. Participants drew and shared their visions, promoting a community-oriented approach to urban planning. 🎉 Street Experiments Tool - SET: We shared in a playful way our latest best practices from the Street Experiments Tool (SET) and showcased our SET Guidelines Kit, enabling everyone to transform streets all over the world so that they can cater to their citizens' needs. 🤝 Engaging with Thought Leaders: We were privileged to connect with a diverse group of thought leaders, including Mayors, Researchers, and Change Agents (too many to mention by name, but are tagged on our pics). These interactions sparked meaningful discussions and collaborations, furthering our mission to create livable, inclusive cities worldwide. A big thank you to Simon Battisti for organizing such an important, impactful, and stimulating summit. We can't wait to see you again next year for the second Start with Children Summit!

HOT OFF THE PRESS: How to transform urban spaces and mobility? A framework for analysing street experiments. #StreetExperiments have become a popular tool in urban and mobility planning and are increasingly studied in academia. Yet, systematic analysis is limited. This paper by Julia Kinigadner, Benjamin Büttner, Ana R., and Simone Aumann (Technische Universität München) presents an assessment framework to collect information on street experiment goals, characteristics, impacts, and learnings systematically. The framework is less focused, but more comprehensive than other approaches. From a scientific point of view, systematic data collection serves as a basis to apply theoretical or analytical frameworks. From a practical point of view, the information can be used by street experiment organizers, both ex-ante and ex-post, for planning, implementation, and evaluation (SET - Street Experiments Tool).
