As #COP16Riyadh comes to a close, the global threat of drought endures. As our Soil Atlas 2024 outlines in great depth the threats, challenges and solutions to soil degradation. Right now, one-third of #soils globally are already degraded. And people living in drought-affected areas are hit the hardest. After a day of rest, the floors of #COP16Riyadh are back to a hefty bustle. While we gear up today for a Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation Day to build out and realise the #Riyadh Action Agenda, we reflect on #Governance Day. 💫 Events on Governance Day summoned a chorus of calls to action. The take away? We must ensure #responsible and #inclusive land governance in the most robust sense if we want to achieve the goals of the newly launched Riyadh Action Agenda aiming to restore 1.5 billion hectares of #degraded land by 2030 and build resilience against #drought. What’s more: Land #tenure was recognised as a core pillar of this call. As the challenges of desertification, drought, and land degradation grow, so do their impacts on people and communities worldwide.
