Recently, Sonja Bayer 白松雅 our Chief Legal Officer VC attended the Matterwave Portfolio Day in Munich, where several portfolio companies showcased their groundbreaking technologies.   𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Daniela Weber-Rey delivered a keynote on “The Future is Europe,” looking back into the European past and emphasizing the importance of the European Union and European collaboration for the present and the future. Panel discussions explored the Future of European VC and opportunities for growth. 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: We saw impressive presentations, including: Firecell on Private 5G for smart factories among others, ZeroPoint on energy-efficient memory technology, and ToolSense on machine digitization.   It was great to see our startup HQS Quantum Simulations also present, leading advancements in quantum-level simulations.   Thanks to Matterwave Ventures for organizing this inspiring event. The event was packed with insightful meetings and exciting pitches, making it an ideal platform to explore potential collaborations. During the event, I had the opportunity to meet with several distinguished VC firms, including FORWARD.one, GED Ventures Portugal, Diffusion Capital Partners, AM Ventures, Anzu Partners, Earlybird Venture Capital, APEX Ventures and Planet A Ventures. It was also great to engage with regional VC investment units from Brandenburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, and Sachsen. Although these units focus on their respective regions, their potential to lead investments is noteworthy.# Our portfolio company, Scrona Ltd., was also present, showcasing their groundbreaking technology. It was exciting to see how the event continues to foster opportunities for innovation. With 7,500 attendees from all over the world, the energy around innovation was palpable. Our principal, Dr. Jens Ortgiese, experienced two days full of insightful meetings and an inspiring conference program, with major takeaways from thought leaders. 📢 Federal Minister Robert Habeck called on the German startup scene to embrace risk-taking, resilience, and boldness. From interest rate fluctuations to geopolitical and tech disruptions, navigating has become challenging. sensiBel, a Norwegian deep-tech scale-up and EIC Scaling Club member, is set to transform the world of audio capture with its groundbreaking MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) microphones. sensiBel's solution uses a laser to measure the displacement of the microphone membrane, resulting in significantly higher performance. As Stig Torud, VP of Business Development at sensiBel, puts it: “We're bringing true studio-quality microphones to the MEMS market in a small package that can go into all types of electronics. Our goal is to provide the same performance as big studio microphones in a size that fits into mobile phones, laptops, and other devices”. With spades of positive customer feedback from testing, over €30 million in funding under their belt, and boasting Sennheiser as an investor – which is a badge of honor for any audio startup – sensiBel is gearing the company toward full production, with plans to launch their product to the market within a year.
