🏃♀️🏃🏽♂️What better way to spice up the onset of deep, dark winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) than a team activity challenge? Here’s what we did last month to boost connection for our remote team and get those heart rates up. 1️⃣ 𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Using a point system, we introduced a dash of healthy competition, motivating everyone to push themselves - not against others, but against who they were last week. The goal? To move more, feel better, and boost overall wellness. Here's how the points worked: - **𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀** for commuting or taking a lunch walk. 🚶♀️ - **𝟭𝟱𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀** for completing a workout. 💪 - **𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀** for achieving 10,000 steps. 🏃♂️ - **𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀** for trying a new sport for the first time. 🏄♀️ Last week, we added in points for mindfulness activities like meditation and yoga. This led to a new initiative: every last Friday of the month now features a 45-minute wellbeing block, where everyone is encouraged to extend their lunch break and take time out —whether it’s going for a walk, a run, or meditating. 🧘♀️ 2️⃣ 𝗦𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿: To add to our focus on wellbeing, we tracked sober weeks as part of this initiative, with **𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀** awarded for each week. This created space for reflection, mindfulness, and building healthier routines, adding an extra layer of awareness and motivation. Feedback has been inspiring, with teammates sharing how these activities have helped them stay active, feel stronger, and build better habits. Small changes spark meaningful impacts - on health, mindset, and connection. Together, we’re proving that little steps can lead to big transformations. Here’s to a healthier, stronger, and more connected VIDA team! 💚

🌧️ One in four UK homes, or around 8 million properties, could be at risk of flooding by 2050 as impact increases due to climate change, the UK’s Environment Agency (EA) says in its latest National Flood Risk Assessment. The report revises earlier estimates due to better data and climate modelling. Heavier rainfall and rising sea levels in a warming world could affect flooding. London is most at risk from surface flooding, while the East Midlands, Yorkshire and The Humber, and south-east England are particularly at risk from river and sea flooding. The good news? Adaptation can help. The number of at-risk properties rises if more houses are built on floodplains, but could be lower if flood defences are improved. Read the full EA report here → https://lnkd.in/eCeFG_i9 ➡️ Did you know that flood risk is the climate hazard our users most frequently ask for? 🇩🇪 👏 We’re thrilled to be recognized as a part of #Germany’s vibrant, innovation-driven business ecosystem. It’s an honour to announce that we have been awarded a prestigious funding grant from the Research Allowance Certification Office (BSFZ) for our technology innovation. Established three years ago, the #BSFZ meets a critical need in the funding landscape by offering broad, industry-agnostic grants. These funds are specifically designed to foster innovation and bolster Germany’s global competitiveness. Und natürlich ein herzliches Dankeschön an das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung die Unterstützung und Anerkennung! 👏 This recognition underscores the value of our state-of-the-art software, which delivers climate risk and location intelligence to support sustainable infrastructure projects worldwide. We’re excited to continue driving innovation and making a meaningful impact on the future of sustainable development.

👀 The EU Commission is considering streamlining newly passed sustainability regulations in an effort to slash red tape for businesses. The EU Taxonomy, the Corporate Sustainability Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) could be amended into an omnibus law, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has suggested. The draft Omnibus proposal could be ready by February 2025, according to analysts. The move is expected to maintain reporting requirements while simplifying the process. ⚠️ Climate advocates are concerned that any change could result in delays and uncertainty at a critical time for implementation. Also, the Trump government’s likely shift towards a less climate and environmentally friendly agenda may embolden European deregulation advocates. 🧐 What next? We view it as unlikely that any change will result in changes to obligations, agreed upon after a lengthy process. We see annual sustainability reporting for large companies, including non-EU companies, as here to stay. A new set of Commissioners take up their post this month and will decide on how best to move forward. ➡️ Here at VIDA, we support companies as they make the transition to CSRD and EU Taxonomy compliant reporting - including physical climate risk assessment for assets and biodiversity footprint identification. Get in touch if you’d like to find out how we can support your company in becoming compliance-ready. ➡️ Download our (free) document Getting Started with Physical Climate Risk Assessment here → https://lnkd.in/gq9JiwZh 📸 @Christian Lue

Thank you for sharing our story Natalie Amiri!

Google's Deepmind has developed an AI to more reliably predict weather (15 days out) than current best-in-class models. Weather and climate are some of the most complex systems we know, and predicting them better can save countless lives (think of hurricanes or floods or draughts). At VIDA we embed such models into our seasonal view of extreme weather risks. https://lnkd.in/dezXDau4 Image credit: NASA

Hi 👋 from the kick-off event for the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Consultation Group for Germany. This group aims to bring together stakeholders from #nature and the #economy to foster dialogue and collaboration as part of the global #TNFD initiative. However, one statistic I heard yesterday is truly alarming: only 6️⃣ organizations in Germany have committed to disclosing under TNFD so far. With all the knowledge we have about the degradation of our ecosystems, the fact that we are exceeding six out of nine planetary boundaries, and the incredible opportunities inherent in addressing these challenges, this lack of commitment is concerning. I understand that this topic may feel new or overwhelming, especially with growing regulatory pressure. That’s why I’m so encouraged to see networks like the TNFD Germany Consultation Group taking a hands-on, experimental, and courageous approach. It’s inspiring to see participants not only ready to tackle this field but genuinely excited to explore their role in it. At VIDA we support our users on this journey—from #governance and #strategy to #risk #management and #metrics. We already provide a robust data catalog of biodiversity-relevant indicators and are continuously expanding in this area. If you’re interested in learning more about how we can help, I’d be happy to connect. Many thanks to the organizers BAUM e.V. , Forum Nachhaltige Geldanlagen e.V. Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection for an incredibly valuable and engaging evening! I’m excited to continue engaging with the network members and exploring how advanced technology and machine learning systems can empower organizations in their nature-related sustainability journey 🦥
