Happy to share that our team will be presenting our latest research at the EGU 2025 conference! 🎉🎉We're excited to share our insights on "Evaluating the performance of ion-exchange resin devices as an MRV tool in mesocosm-scale weathering experiments" in session BG8.11 – Recent Advances to Enhanced Rock Weathering and Inland Water Alkalinity Enhancement as a Carbon Dioxide Removal Strategy: Assessing Future Risks and Opportunities. 🌍🔬 Our study explores a promising solution to one of the critical challenges in Enhanced Weathering: developing reliable and scalable MRV methods for CDR. By adapting Self-Integrating Accumulators (SIAs)—originally designed to monitor nutrient leaching—for time-integrated measurements of subsoil cation and anion fluxes, we’ve achieved high (>90%) adsorption efficiencies even under intense weathering conditions. These preliminary findings, obtained using basaltic feedstock and agricultural soils, could set the stage for more accurate and cost-effective MRV in large-scale ERW deployments. Another win to share!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 ZeroEx has been awarded a grant from the #Climate_Intervention_Environmental_Impact_Fund (#CEIEF) to deepen our understanding of the environmental impact of Enhanced Rock Weathering in Western Germany. 🌍 What’s #ERW? A natural climate solution that removes CO₂ by accelerating the weathering of silicate rocks. We apply finely crushed rock to agricultural land, enhancing this process while following strict EU regulations. But there’s still more to learn about its broader environmental effects. 🔬 What will this grant support? Over the next 3 years, we’ll conduct a field trial to study how potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the environment after rock application by studying: 🌱 Plants 🌾 Soil 💧 Water (leachate samples) 🛠️ How? We’re partnering with independent Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experts to ensure the safe, responsible, and scalable deployment of ERW. 📢 Why it matters The insights from this study won’t just shape our own operations. Unsere Policy Managerin Nadine Walsh hat uns heute auf der Konferenz der EU-Kommission zur öffentlichen Finanzierung von #CDR in der EU vertreten. Ihre drei wesentlichen Feststellungen: ✴️ Die EU-Förderlandschaft ist komplex und nur wenige profitieren erfolgreich von den Programmen. ✴️ Öffentliche Gelder sollten breiter zugänglich sein, um alle CDR-Methoden zu unterstützen, Kosten zu senken und privates Kapital zu mobilisieren. ✴️ Mehr Transparenz und einfacherer Zugang zu Fördermitteln könnten dazu beitragen, das Potenzial von CDR besser auszuschöpfen. Ebenfalls beteiligt an der Konferenz in Brüssel waren unsere Mitglieder ZeroEx, ClimeFi, South Pole und Novocarbo (als virtueller Panelist).
