🌟  𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 🌟 We’re excited to share our recent success story from the Research and Diagnostic Center Adore, part of the Amsterdam UMC (University Medical Centre), where our SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system met the unique fire safety challenges posed by a 22-metre-high atrium. Modern atriums bring light and openness to architectural design, but this can also complicate fire safety. Traditional sprinklers weren’t enough to meet the demands of this tall space. 🚒 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? A high-pressure water mist system. By strategically mounting nozzles at 8 meters to create a mist that reaches up to 12 meters, we were able to halve radiation levels in just 3 minutes—all while minimizing smoke. As our project manager Peter Mühlendorph Knudsen shared: "Together with our business partner Unica Fire Safety we faced the challenge of adapting fire safety measures to a tall atrium. By installing our SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system, we were able to deliver a solution that not only met the safety requirements, but also maintained the architectural integrity of the atrium. This is a testament to how innovative fire protection solutions combined with a performance-based approach can overcome the demands of modern architecture." ☘️This week at DataCentres Ireland 2024 we achieved great things. 140 pints of Guinness in 3 hours, not to mention the fridge beers. We had a little help from our customers, but don’t let that distract you from the valiant effort by Danfoss Fire Safety A/S. But before we embarked on that challenge (and it was better to do it before than after), I gave a talk about modern and emerging cooling methods in data centres and how they have an impact of fire safety 🔥 🌍 Given that data centres already make up 1.5% of the global energy consumption and cooling makes up for 40% of a data centres consumption, it’s quite right that it’s an area we see new innovation 💡 It’s important that the fire industry pay attention to what is happening and match that innovation with our own new developments, testing, CFD to ensure we can demonstrate the impact these cooling methods can have. They joined our Academy Training, focused on servicing the SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system installed in the research station in Antarctica. The SEM-SAFE® pump unit we delivered for this project is designed to run without electrical power supply, but with a diesel engine. This makes it the optimum choice for areas in which power source is an issue. In addition, the participants learned about the latest update on the diesel pump unit, where the integrated booster pump is driven directly by the diesel engine for 100% redundancy in black out situations.
