🔉 Vabamu has launched its podcast! ✨ In the first episode of the podcast, Triinu Ossinovski, head of the humanitarian aid and development cooperation and a board member of Mondo, joined as a guest. The episode is dedicated to Citizen’s Day and the role of civil society in defending freedom and rights. During this engaging conversation, topics include Vabamu's new temporary exhibition “Defending Freedom”, Estonia’s civil society, and the work of Mondo both in Estonia and abroad. Volunteer Jurate supported farmers in Mondo’s partner community Northern-Ghana with climate change adaptation. She learned from the farmers about how climate change has been impacting their work and personal life, as well as what solutions to adaptation they see in the community. In every war, the education system needs extra support to guarantee children access to quality education. One way to achieve this is by enhancing the digital skills of teachers and education workers. 💻🖥️ 🎒🏫 Teachers in Ukraine are in a difficult situation. Based on necessity, part of the teaching takes place online in a distance learning format. However, teachers lack basic digital skills, and the teaching methods they use are outdated. Due to the war, the state budget intended to support education reforms in Ukraine is limited, and no international donor offers a systematic approach to developing the educational technology and digital skills of school staff to make learning more inclusive. 👩🏫 In Ukraine's Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions, we are conducting digital competency trainings using the Training of Trainers (ToT) model. This involves educating 120 trainers who will then continue sharing their knowledge to 1,200 of their colleagues. Teachers recognize the need to improve digital capabilities—many who completed the training used the school holidays to share knowledge with their colleagues. 🤔 We also observed the importance of these trainings, especially for the older generation, whose digital skills are weaker. At first, every task, from turning on computers, took a long time; teachers didn’t know their usernames or passwords, a few made handwritten notes of every step while taking advantage of daily opportunities for additional consultations. 👉 Let's provide teachers with skills they can pass on to their schools and communities! Iti Aavik is the Citizen of the Year! 👏🎉✨ Iti is a versatile and inspiring leader in civil society and a role model for everyone striving to create a better future through their actions. 😊 In her acceptance speech yesterday, Iti said that if we want to raise active citizens who contribute to society, we must start early by considering what kind of role models we offer to young people and children through our own actions. She also emphasized the importance of making them feel that their actions have an impact and a voice, and encouraging them to be active citizens in the future. "This is not only the responsibility of parents and teachers but a concern for all of us, as it determines the kind of society we wish to live in tomorrow." Iti is also part of our Mondo team, advancing women's rights in Armenia. 😊🇦🇲

In Mondo’s digital training sessions, security plays a significant role. On Global Encryption Day, we focused on practical tools for promoting cybersecurity skills with Uganda’s future teachers at the Canon Apolo College. ✨ A big thank you to the Internet Society for inviting us to join! Mondo supports Ukrainian war refugees in Georgia. 🇺🇦 🔹 There are approximately 26,000 Ukrainian refugees in Georgia, 88% of whom did not have enough money last year to support themselves and their families—covering costs for food, medical services, and heating. 🔹 We support war refugees in the Tbilisi region through cash-based assistance, distributing 600 vouchers for purchasing medicines, diapers, and baby formula. This aid helps address acute needs arising from unemployment and high living costs. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia

Frequent power outages, time spent in shelters and lack of proper sleep are causing significant learning gaps in the education of Ukrainian children. To help mitigate these gaps, "Easy Camp" summer camps were held during the summer. 👉 Given the innovative format of the camps, a survey was conducted among the participants, with 150 7th-grade students from the frontlines of the Zaporizhzhia region responding. 🔎 The survey results indicate that this format is effective for addressing educational deficiencies and providing psycho-emotional support to children: 📌 78.7% of students reported a general improvement in their level of knowledge; 📌 87.3% of participants gave positive feedback on the chosen learning format; 📌 69.3% of participants noted a positive impact of the camp on their emotional well-being. 🤝 Mondo tested the camp-based approach for the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, which, in collaboration with local municipalities, is implementing the model on a broader scale. The summer camps were implemented in cooperation with the charity foundation "East SOS" and supported by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
