Volunteer Jurate supported farmers in Mondo’s partner community Northern-Ghana with climate change adaptation. She learned from the farmers about how climate change has been impacting their work and personal life, as well as what solutions to adaptation they see in the community. New position to volunteer continues with this, so join us to advice the communities in climate change adaptation in Ghana. 🇬🇭 🌱 Find more info and apply: https://lnkd.in/gNQUj582 #thepoweroftogether #EUsolidarityCorps #volunteers #vabatahtlikud Co-funded by EU

At Giddaa, we believe that owning a home goes beyond just the walls and roof. It's about contributing to the community and the world we share. That's why for every house purchased through Giddaa, a tree is planted by our partners at The Rural Environmental Empowerment Initiative (T.R.E.E Initiative). 🌱 Your Home, Your Tree: Each tree planted is geotagged, allowing you to know its exact location. You will receive a certificate of ownership and appreciation, recognizing your contribution to combating climate change and erosion in Nigeria. 🌍 Why We Do It: We believe that caring for a home means caring for our planet. By planting trees in strategic locations, we’re helping to fight erosion and mitigate the effects of climate change. 🤝 Join Us: This initiative is our way of giving back, with the support of our partners and customers. Together, we can make a difference and protect the Earth, our shared home. Let’s plant roots for a greener, healthier future. Choose Giddaa and be a part of the change.

📣 Paulo Gidabudeba, a Datooga community leader, says "In the forest we have sacred trees that we use for worship. Most of these trees have medicinal properties, there isn't a tree without a purpose." This innate knowledge drives numerous Indigenous communities around the world to protect their forests. The importance of protecting forests is increasingly recognised as a crucial and cost-effective ways to mitigate climate change. However, financing protection activities remains a challenge. In Tanzania, the voluntary carbon market has played a critical role in directing much needed funds to Indigenous peoples and local communities who are dedicated to protecting their community-owned forests. 🌳 #indigenousknowledge #nature #carboncredits #voluntarycarbonmarket

In this candid conversation, John Mwakima, a community leader from Kenya, shares his firsthand experience with the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ project with Mike Korchinsky, Founder and President of Wildlife Works. Born and raised in a town within the decade-old REDD+ project, John has seen the transformational before-and-after effects of the project on his community. Together, Mike and John dive deep into the often-misunderstood world of #voluntarycarbonmarkets and their impact on communities in the Global South. As western organizations make sweeping decisions about the future of the voluntary carbon market, it is critical that local community members who have been directly affected by these projects are effectively consulted. This conversation aims to amplify one such voice, offering invaluable insights from the ground level. As John puts it in this conversation, “For example with regards to the recent statement by SBTi, we are wondering, how can they release a statement, a report, saying that there are negligible impacts of carbon credits as far as mitigating the climate change impact is concerned? Why aren't they coming to the ground and gathering information from us and interviewing us to see for themselves?” Listen to the full conversation, linked in the comments below. #CarbonCreditsWork #REDD+ #ClimateAction #KasigauCorridor

There is nowhere on earth like Madagascar and nothing like a Forward Global Journey to accelerate our connection to communities, learning and peers. When our members go to Madagascar May 19 - 24, we will visit a place with 90% endemic plant and animal life. It’s also the poorest country not in active conflict, with community leaders doing incredible, life-saving work on tiny budgets, in unimaginably challenging circumstances. We’ll meet communities in urban centers, in the rainforest and on the coast, to learn about how they are building power for systemic change. Our members will see first-hand the effects of deforestation, learn about the threats to human rights, understand the challenges in health, democracy, education and poverty alleviation, and explore how these issues are interlinked. Are you a dedicated and passionate youth leader or a climate activist based in Phalombe or Nsanje? Do you want to lead climate justice efforts and create positive change? If so, Global Platform Malawi, in collaboration with YOFONAT , is coming for you through our upcoming Youth for Climate Justice initiative! This project aims to empower young leaders and climate activists to respond effectively to climate change through capacity building. We will also raise awareness about how industries are fueling the climate crisis and draining public funds from Global South governments. Additionally, we will remind young people of how Cyclone Freddy, in March 2023, claimed the lives of our loved ones in these districts and underscored the urgency of climate action. Our demand is clear: the Global North must be held accountable for the climate crisis. “The world should not have to choose among human development, poverty eradication, climate mitigation, and climate adaptation; win-win solutions are at hand.” - The Drawdown Climate-Poverty Report, 2022 Wangari Maathai understood this better than most when her dedication to democracy and uplifting women in poverty led her to found the Green Belt Movement. Africa Environment Day was instituted by the Organization of African Unity in 2002 to highlight the urgent environmental issues confronting the continent. Starting from 2012, it has coincided with Wangari Maathai Day, commemorating the enduring green legacy of the late Nobel Laureate. Today we honor her legacy of environmentalism and human rights by spreading awareness of the host of climate solutions her work embodied including: Forest Protection, Grassland Protection, Tropical Forest Restoration, Temperate Forest Restoration, Peatlands Restoration, and Coastal Wetland Restoration. In addition, her work included Educating Women and Girls - another powerful climate solution. If you are interested in learning more about how her work connects to climate solutions, please check out the Drawdown Climate-Poverty report to learn more about the science behind the solutions: https://lnkd.in/ghJxGW6e You can directly support Maathai's work with a donation to the Wangari Maathai Foundation. #climateheros #climatesolutions #projectdrawdown #climateaction

Today, we are spreading the word about the vital work of environmental NGO Tree Aid, a charity we are proud to support. Tree Aid works with communities across the drylands of Africa to grow trees as a way of alleviating poverty, improving incomes, and tackling the effects of the climate crisis. Communities living along the frontlines of climate change continue to feel its impacts. Across African drylands, temperatures are soaring, weather patterns are changing and vital land is losing its fertility. For the people who live here, the impact of land desertification and increasing droughts are threatening their survival. Trees are a solution. Trees help to reverse the effects of desertification by keeping water in the soil, stabilsing the earth and returning soil fertility. So far, Tree Aid has restored and protected over 200,000 hectares of degraded land. Not only that, but they have also supported people to develop enterprise groups selling seeds, fruits and nuts from trees for sustainable income, and have grown over 30 million trees across Africa's drylands!
