Heliopolis University sparking climate action at #COP29! HU team represented by Mr. Helmy Abouleish, Chair of Board of Trustees of Heliopolis University along with Dr. Ahmed Elshazly, Director of Sponsored Programs & International Relations, Dr. Thoraya Seada, Director of Carbon Footprint Center (CFC), and Eng. Naglaa Ahmed, Projects Manager at the Office of Sponsored Programs, took part in COP29 Azerbaijan of the UNFCCC, within this year’s united call “In Solidarity for a Green World” Our team was involved in many events, pavilions, dialogues and discussions about our continuous efforts in ensuring a sustainable development in our community and Egypt. With media being the way people become aware of the urgency required in shifting behavior to more environmentally conscious, Heliopolis University #COP29 representatives took part in multiple Climate Journalist Roundtables as well. Our conversations highlighted the on-ground actions we take for the betterment of the environment in various aspects, as follows: 👉Regenerative Agriculture:  Helping 40,000 smallholder farmers in transitioning to regenerative agriculture and the actions taken to support them; thus making strides for climate change and transforming lives in the process. 👉Carbon Emissions:  Exploring challenges and possible solutions facing the Carbon Voluntary Market (CVM) in Egypt and Africa; thus ensuring carbon credits quality and environmental advocacy. 👉Water Management:  Explaining our sustainability practices for water management and conversation, as well as biodynamic and regenerative agriculture; thus changing the climate action game for a better future. 👉Higher Education: Voicing our beliefs and university activities in unfolding human potential through higher education as an infrastructure for a regenerative and healthy world. 👉Food Systems: Discussing our plans for environmentally conscious food systems through regenerative agriculture and water systems management. Last week in Baku, Azerbaijan! I had the pleasure to participate in COP29 Azerbaijan for the UNFCCC. I represented Heliopolis University Office of Sponsored Programs and SEKEM Group in some Panels and round table discussions in addition to the participation in off site events with NOW Partners Foundation and Future Economy Forum in Solutions Dialogue series. I had the honor to be part of a High Level Global Leaders Dialogue: Aligning Climate Action and Biodiversity Conservation for Achieving a Nature-Positive Future and the Paris Agreement Goals, hosted by the COP29 Presidency, IDEA Public Union and IUCN. The dialogue focused on the role of the non-state actors and was moderated by HE Nigar Arpadarai, the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion of COP29, where my co-panelists represented big companies and organizations as Toyota, Nestle, Holcim, Bayer and more!

New Collaboration Announcement! Last Tuesday, #HU_IRO received a delegation from EMUNI University, led by its President, Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc, along with two professors, at Heliopolis University, who met HU President Prof. Gouda Helal, along with two Deans of Faculties and the Director of International Relations. During their visit, they got the chance to have comprehensive tours at SEKEM Group farm and Heliopolis University, where they discussed HU’s efforts in the integration of sustainable development practices, both in the educational & research aspects. Moreover, an agreement was signed between both universities to foster multiple collaborations on educational & research aspects. More from the Industry-Based Education Initiative! Last week we hosted a Social Initiative Forum at Heliopolis University,  to explore our latest initiative and work on integrating industry needs in higher education. During the event, we were honored to hear from Eng. Bassam Elshanwany, Chairman of the Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB), on the collaboration to incorporate business needs into Heliopolis University students' learning journeys. He highlighted that junior businesses are invested in and eager to integrate the Industry-Based Education Initiative within their companies. Afterwards, we were delighted by another Space of Culture performance by The Quartet, who took us out of this world with magical musical pieces that included classical, Arab & jazz favorite tunes. Following that, we heard from Dr. Thoraya Seada, Director of Carbon Footprint Center (CFC), and Dr. Menna Abd Elhamid, HU Training Academy Executive Manager, on how Heliopolis University can integrate its environmental & capacity building services with the partnering companies. To conclude the event, we heard from the group discussions moderators on what actions can be taken and was suggested by the groups to start the implementation of the Industry-Based Education at Heliopolis University. Finally, Dr. Ahmed Elshazly, gave us an overview on the potential collaboration requests that we received across industries and what are the actions taken to start the implementation process. Industry-Based Education Initiative in Action! Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a special edition of the Social Initiative Forum Events, discussing the Industry-Based Education Initiative. The attendees included both Heliopolis University Academic staff across all faculties as well as representatives from various companies & organizations across industries. The day started with a vibrant Space of Culture performance, followed by welcome remarks by Mr. Helmy Abouleish, Chair of Board of Trustees at Heliopolis University, followed by Prof. Gouda Helal, President of Heliopolis University. After that, Dr. Ahmed Elshazly, Director of Sponsored Programs, International Relations and Centers,  provided attendees with insights on the essential competencies students need to succeed in the job market, the learning approaches used at Heliopolis University, and specific details about the Industry-Based Education Initiative. Then our keynote speaker, Prof. Rania El Sharkawy, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science at Borg El Arab University, elaborated on Industry-Based Education as a global learning approach that connects higher education with practical, industry-relevant skills for students. She also shared her experiences in applying this approach effectively. Later on, we moved into group discussions, which allowed attendees to hear from industry representatives, gain insights into their needs, and explore steps for integrating the Industry-Based Education approach into students' academic learning.
