CIRAWA is working with small-holder farmers in West Africa to improve food nutrition, local livelihoods, and ecosystem health. Bringing together 16 partners from 9 countries, CIRAWA is developing new agroecological-based practices that build on existing local and scientific knowledge to help create more resilient food supply chains across Cape Verde, Ghana, Senegal, and The Gambia.

Women play an essential role in the food system, making up 43% of the global agricultural labour force, yet less than 15% of landholders are women. The Women Forum on Agroecology held in the Nabdam District, Ghana, is a significant initiative under the CIRAWA Project-Ghana aimed to empower women farmers, as they play a crucial role in agriculture.
