On Tuesday I had the opportunity to join #WaterProjectsEurope session organised by PROMISCES project on #PFAS contamination. From the SCENARIOS Project EU and together with my colleague Jan Klenner from LOMARTOV SL we have raised the issue of socio-economic aspects of living in a #PFAS contaminated environment. ❗ It might cost us to remediate the soil and water, but it is much more expensive not to do it. We need to consider all the consequences, including psychological stress, economic burdens, and social inequalities. I also enjoyed the panel discussion where I had the chance to share the main results from the SCENARIOS Project EU workshop in early September: a marketplace for the industry to find tailored remediation solutions and the need for the research community to speed up the release of techological breakthroughs. 🇪🇸 Hoy queremos hablaros del proyecto #ChargeBoost, dentro de las líneas promovidas por E-Boost y en colaboración con la empresa LOMARTOV SL. El objetivo del proyecto es el desarrollo de un Energy Management System #EMS para permitir la instalación de #baterías como buffer para dar soporte a puntos de de recarga ultrarápidos de vehículo eléctrico, permitiendo así instalar puntos de recarga de entre 100 y 300kW en instalaciones con potencia disponible de acometida de entre 10 y 30kW. Durante el proyecto se están desarrollando todo un conjunto de herramientas software para la simulación de funcionamiento de las estaciones al completo y el dimensionamiento óptimo de batería y electrónica de potencia. 🎤 Project partner from LOMARTOV SL, Enrique Moliner Santisteve, presented the results of a life cycle sustainability assessment of the existing end-of-life paths for spent lithium-ion batteries (LiB). 📄 In addition to describing current LiB recycling procedures, such as pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical technologies, it includes environmental, economic, and social life cycle assessments across scenarios for different battery chemistries (NMC and LFP). The advantages of material recovery, especially the crucial raw materials (CRM) included in LiBs, are contrasted with the direct effects of these recycling procedures. Furthermore, the sustainability of recycling practices is assessed in several regions, including China, the US, and Europe.
