SUNDIAL HOUSE: ON INHABITING THE DESERT When offered the unique challenge of designing a home in AlUla, we asked ourselves how to create a house that could engage with its context. The plot devised for the project is flat, surrounded by huge rocks, and has no apparent good or bad views to look to or away from—only the desert's silence and the rocks' monumentality. The remoteness of the plot allowed us to pursue a design strategy mainly focused on creating a dialogue with the site's topography. On the other hand, even though the landscape remains unchanged, our ways of living and connecting to it have evolved. How can we bring the best of today into this ancient land? The Sundial House invites its users to engage with nature and local traditions through a contemporary lens. In this sense, the house serves as a platform for an enriched experience of desert living—where comfort meets the timeless spirit of AlUla. A model for creativity.
Sobre nosotros
Mesura is a model for creativity. We meet durable creative solutions first by stepping into the unknown, then by reimagining the ways architecture and design are practiced. We explore a wide range of mediums, including Spatial Projects, Objects, Resources, and Editorial work. Each medium offers a unique opportunity for us to bring new ideas to life. Whether it's designing a space, crafting an object, curating resources, or producing thought–provoking content, we approach each project with dedication and a commitment to excellence. Foundational to our working process, is a methodology rooted in a transdisciplinary way of thinking, seeking to find points of connection within the various fields which we operate in. Each project serves as an on–going testing site where the process is just as valued as the final outcome. We believe that true innovation happens when different perspectives and ideas come together and intersect.

THE MUSEUM, REIMAGINED: AN EMBODIED EXPERIENCE Reimagining the museum as an integral part of the landscape rather than as an isolated object transformed our approach. Instead of conceiving the Museum of the Incense Road as a solid mass, its program unfolds into a series of gardens, polyvalent spaces and exhibitions, inviting visitors to connect with the site. The layout follows the plot's south-north axis, adapting to the topography with varying levels that create diverse spatial experiences. A central plaza articulates the conjunction of the urban and the natural, preceded by a series of multi-layered spaces. Public courtyards, gardens, and promenades extend the museum's sensory experience outward, linking the museum with the dunes, palm groves, and rocks. These paths rejoin with ancient trails that were part of the Incense Road, tying them to the project's master plan. MUSEUM OF THE INCENSE ROAD: ROOTED IN CONTEXT In Roman times, the genius loci represented the protective spirit of a place, often symbolised as a statue within buildings. In contemporary architectural discourse, the genius loci refer to a place's unique sense of place, emphasising the importance of listening and observing. Understanding that the museum should be rooted in its context, we embraced this concept to learn which cultural and physical factors defined this site's identity. At the foot of the rock formations of AlJadidah, the museum's site lies between the urban fabric and the valley. It is one of the rare sites where the four main elements of the landscape—dunes, oasis, rocks, and urban fabric—converge. Acknowledging the strategic position of the plot, we started thinking of the museum as an open, transitional space–an opportunity to connect the city with the landscape. NEW PROJECT: MUSEUM OF THE INCENSE ROAD At the heart of AlUla, where the history of trade and nature converge, the Museum of the Incense Road emerges as a bridge between the urban and the landscape. Opposed to the idea of the museum as a self-contained and isolated element, its programme expands into a series of gardens, plazas, and exhibition spaces that invite people to have an embodied experience of the site—a doorway between AlJadidah and the Wadi.
