📢 The METASAT project announces the integration of Frontgrade Gaisler’s NOEL-V core, a #RISCV processor freely available for academic and research purposes. 🛰️ METASAT has extended this core by integrating a custom hardware accelerator designed specifically for AI space applications. This addition aims to leverage the efficiency and flexibility of the RISC-V architecture, positioning the METASAT project at the forefront of AI hardware innovation. 👀 Have you read our publication about XeroZerox: Analysis and Optimization of GPU Memory Management for High-Integrity Autonomous Systems? 🧑💻 This paper presents the challenges of using GPUs in critical autonomous systems, focusing on optimizing dynamic memory management. XeroZerox adresses this challenge, being an open-source tool that automatically converts the traditional dynamic memory allocations of GPU applications into allocations served from a centralized and optimally sized memory pool, which is managed in a way better suited for critical systems. XeroZerox allows legacy GPU applications to be used in a critical setup without rewriting them, minimizing at the same time their memory consumption and memory management runtime overhead. METASAT Project's coordinator, Dr. Leonidas Kosmidis from Barcelona Supercomputing Center, will teach on Monday a GPU tutorial for Satety Critical Systems at the Digital Avionics Systems Conference (DASC). METASAT, a Horizon Europe project funded by the European Commission, supported the development of the tutorial material and it's a promoter of open standard, interoperable solutions, such as the RISC-V ISA from the RISC-V International, as well as the OpenGL SC and SYCL SC standards developed by The Khronos Group. During the project, an OpenGL SC implementation was developed targeting RISC-V CPUs and GPUs like the ones found in the award-winning METASAT's hardware platform which is prototyped on an FPGA, as well as an avionics application demonstrator. #riscv #gpu #avionics #safetycritical #openstandards #dasc #tutorial

🚀 Last week, our colleagues from FENTISS participated at the European Space Agency - ESA Industry Space Days 2024. 💫 In this event hosted in ESTEC (Noordwijk, The Netherlands), our team had the opportunity to hear from ESA and other key stakeholders in the European space industry, showcase products and services and meet future partners. For two days, we had the chance to identify trends and business opportunities within the space sector, in which METASAT was an excellent example to show in terms of software modules, open architecture hardware, and high-performance computing platforms for the space sector.
