Pleased to share this upcoming event co-organized by the AG-WaMED PRIMA Project, featuring the presentation of the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) report on the State of Global Water Resources. The State of Global Water Resources report reveals significant stress on global water supplies, with five years of below-normal river flows and widespread glacier ice loss. 2023 was the hottest year on record, marked by droughts and floods. The report highlights the urgent need for action to address water shortages affecting 3.6 billion people, projected to rise to over 5 billion by 2050. To register for the event and access all relevant information, please refer to the post below.

Define the WEFE Nexus: we need your input! Since the 2011 Bonn Conference, defining the WEFE Nexus has remained a challenge—multiple definitions exist, but no single, universally accepted one. This lack of clarity makes implementation across disciplines difficult. How do you define the Nexus? Ahead of the Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC 2025) this April, PRIMA and UNU- FLORES are gathering insights to define a clear and actionable Nexus framework. Prof. Ali Rhouma and Prof. Floor Brouwer will lead a session dedicated to this topic: session A2 "A robust definition of the Nexus – Learning from Resource Nexus and Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus applications" (8 April 2025, 11:40-13:10, Großer Saal - Nexus). 🔹For the preparation of this session, we need your input 🔹Take this 5-minute survey This survey is conducted in collaboration of the session chairs, Prof. Ali Rhouma and Prof. Floor Brouwer, and the DNC2025 organizers. https://lnkd.in/dBKGZ5DM

From History to tomorrow: 30 Years of Euro-Mediterranean progress 🌍⏳ 🔑 Key takeaways: •30 years of cooperation have shown that bi-regional partnerships can drive innovation—but only when based on shared interests and mutual benefit 🤝💡 • Aligning research with national priorities is essential to translate scientific progress into real-world solutions 🌐🔬 • Bridging the gap between research and policy action remains a crucial challenge 🔗📑 • Administrative and financial barriers still limit the full potential of cooperation 🚧💰 These insights were shared by Prof. Ali Rhouma at the Euro-Mediterranean Research Roundtable, as he took part in a session co-organized by European Institute of the Mediterranean and Union for the Mediterranean, sharing the stage with Rafael Rodríguez Clemente (CSIC), marilena Marilena.Rossano, and Yoran Beldengrün, PhD (OECD - OCDE) and Giuseppe Provenzano (Union for the Mediterranean), chairing the session. All together, they traced 30 years of cooperation, discussed the key lessons, successes, and ongoing challenges that have shaped the region's research and innovation landscape. A big thank you to the organizers and speakers for bringing us together and coming together around such an important topic. Photo: IEMED
