If you're wondering what taking part in a Demola project is like, here's another real-life story 📝 from our alum Emma Peltomaa from the University of Vaasa. Emma highlights ✨ project management, teamwork skills and design thinking ✨ as the main takeaways from the project—all skills that are valuable in the working life. 🎈 If gaining or practicing these skills resonates with you, we are offering 27 opportunities to make them a reality. In Vaasa, the projects are done in collaboration with the University of Vaasa, and we warmly invite students from the other five universities in the region to participate as well, Novia University of Applied Sciences, Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu VAMK University of Applied Sciences, Åbo Akademi University, Hanken School of Economics and University of Helsinki. Check out the 27 projects and apply by Feb 16, 2025, at ➡️ www.demola.net/apply/Vaasa
A couple of months back, I participated in a Demola project as a part of University of Vaasa’s project course. Over an intense few months, my team and I were asked to solve a real-life problem for one of Demola's stakeholders: creating a next-level audio experience for Yle Areena. Easy, right? 👀 The problem 💭 Yle's app faces three challenges: limited user personalisation, vast amounts of underutilised content and "hidden gems," and minimal cross-platform support between Yle Areena and Yle News. The process 🤓 With no prior experience in platform design or coding, we relied on our creativity, major-related knowledge, and experiences as personal app users. While some ideas were overly complex to begin with and others evolved significantly through the process, the feedback from Demola staff and Yle experts helped us shape a viable solution. The solution 💡 We proposed an advanced recommendation system featuring: 1️⃣ Feedback loop – A system that learns user preferences through immediate feedback. 2️⃣ Content modes – Customizable modes for activities like working out or relaxing, with filters for duration, tone, and mood. 3️⃣ Dive deeper – A feature allowing users to explore related topics across different Yle platforms (e.g., documentaries, radio shows, news). Takeaways 🌟 I never imagined our team would become national finalists at the Demola final in Helsinki, but we did! Pitching our idea to stakeholders and receiving positive feedback made the hard work all worth it. The whole journey taught me project management, teamworking skills, and design thinking. Huge thanks to Demola for the incredible experience and even bigger thanks to my amazing teammates: Mikael Sarja, Kalle Holmström, Sakari Kinnunen, and Shuvendu Shuvo Mallick! If you ever get the chance to join a project like this—don’t think twice. I promise you won't regret it! 💫

Our alumni Paula Veras, (Uta)Tingting Zhang, Thảo Đỗ and Faria Hoque Zahin explain how their Demola projects helped them expand their career horizons. 💫 "'With my teaching degree, I used to believe that a teaching career was my only option. After the project, I found the confidence to say that my expertise in education opens doors to multiple careers, and now I can envision myself in new roles,' Thao Do says." 📝 The piece was authored by Elina Kirvesniemi, and you can read it at: https://lnkd.in/dgD7DvWj

Almost a month ago, we completed our project journey with Demola, and I am delighted to share my new certificate: "Co-Creator: My Grandma Would've Scored From That!" from Demola. The experience of working on this project has been incredible. From our initial brainstorming sessions to the mid-finals in Tampere and ultimately to the National Final Showcase at Business Finland's Team Finland House, it has been a remarkable learning journey. Starting from scratch, we developed a fresh solution through collaborative effort with my amazing teammates: Jonáš Janata, Jijo Valiyaveettil, Isak W., Hieu N., and Pavlo Koroveshi - working with you all was truly amazing.

We finished our Demola project in the National Finals at Helsinki, and it was very rewarding to pitch our idea to all the individuals from various companies and institutions. Their feedback were helpful and sometimes humbling. We aim to improve. Here is our journey in text-slides, give it a once over and let us know if you think there is a need for this solution to exist.
