🚨 A Call for Humanity: EU Leaders Must Take a Stand 🚨 The recent freeze in U.S. foreign aid have severed lifelines for millions of people worldwide, halting access to healthcare, education, food, and clean water. In response, VOICE and the CEOs of 99 humanitarian NGOs have issued an open letter urging EU leaders and Member States to act NOW. The EU leaders must: ✅ Increase humanitarian funding to ensure continued access to lifesaving services. ✅ Strengthen partnerships with national and international NGOs, providing flexible and sustainable support. ✅ Lead a global strategic dialogue to build a more principled and resilient humanitarian system. Now is the time for European leadership and solidarity. Read the full letter: https://lnkd.in/gQFYVRZr

  • ☝️ Education is not a privilege—it is the foundation for lasting change and a fundamental right for children. In this critical time of shrinking aid budgets and escalating crises, the global community cannot afford delays or inaction. As a member of the Geneva Global Hub for Education in Emergencies we remain committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable children and youth. We call on governments, philanthropy and other donors to stand with us to: • Sustain and increase humanitarian and development funding • Ensure safe, inclusive, and quality education for all crisis-affected children and youth. • Support local communities and educators. ➡️ Read the full EiE Hub statement here: https://lnkd.in/dw-MTgaf.

Humanitarian and development funding is under unprecedented strain, with donor cuts reshaping global aid and putting millions of vulnerable children, youth, and their families at risk. Essential services including education are being halted or pushed to the brink in fragile and crisis-affected contexts such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gaza, Sudan and elsewhere. The members of the EiE Hub call on governments, philanthropy and other donors to stand with us to:  1️⃣ Sustain and increase humanitarian and development funding, and prioritise education for its critical capacity to facilitate other life-saving and life-sustaining interventions such as health, water and sanitation, food, and protection, while also enabling resilience-building and self-reliance.    2️⃣ Ensure safe, inclusive, and quality education for all crisis-affected children and youth – girls and boys, children with disabilities, refugees, and displaced children and youth must not be left behind.  3️⃣ Support local communities and educators – frontline teachers and local organisations are key to delivering education in the most challenging contexts and must be adequately supported. • 🇺🇦 The 3-year war in Ukraine has left permanent emotional scars especially on children and young people. Psychosocial support is an effective first aid, but the needs of children and young people in the midst of war are wider than what can be responded to at the moment, according to a new survey by FCA. 😌 Of the 276 children who participated in the study, 63% reported that they felt calmer and more relaxed after participating in FCA's psychosocial support activities. Education remains a central way in which FCA supports children's mental wellbeing, says Patricia Maruschak, Country Director for FCA Ukraine. 💬 "Children go to school even in the midst of war. We support them in coping with schoolwork, the challenges of online learning and dealing with the trauma of war. Children and young people's most important needs at the moment are related to emotional and psychosocial support. ” ➡️ Read more about the survey - https://lnkd.in/d_KFvXna 📸: Antti Yrjönen/FCA

  • 😓 For #refugees living in camps or settlements, life can at times feel hopeless, especially when work opportunities are hard to come by. This is why opportunities for talented and educated refugees are crucial. 👨🏿⚕️ Kemigisha Kellen and Ronald Mugisha both heard about the Complementary Pathways programme, which connects skilled refugee labourers with employers in third countries. After a year-long process they are both set to move to Canada, to work in nursing. The process is supported by FCA Uganda, Talent Beyond Boundaries and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Uganda, and with the assistance of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). • 🇫🇮 Finland's Common Responsibility Campaign is in its 7️⃣5️⃣th year. The campaign defends neglected people and advocates for caring and justice. As well as raising funds for local youth, the campaign sends international aid to crisis areas around the world through FCA's disaster fund. The funds raised enable young people to continue their schooling in unstable circumstances and build the conditions for a secure and hopeful future. 🇨🇫 Soureya’s story is common in the Central African Republic. Most girls who attend school drop out before the fourth grade. Only a small percentage of those who complete the first six grades of primary school continue on to secondary school and graduation. ➡️ Read more about Soureya's story and the situation in Central African Republic over at our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dq7csxzJ Find out more about the Common Responsibility Campaign ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dYcbfz9F

  • 🇺🇬 A special commission to review Uganda’s education system concluded its findings this week in a nearly five year process to reposition the country’s Education and Sports system to meet the needs and challenges of the 21st century. 💚 FCA provided expert support throughout, also organising a benchmarking trip to Finland in 2023 for members of the Education Policy Review Commission (EPRC). Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Museveni officially received the report “Education for Values, Innovation and Transformation,” consisting of findings and recommendations for a new Government White Paper on Education and Sports services in Uganda. “My special thanks go to Finn Church Aid, represented here today by their Country Director, Mr. Wycliffe Nsheka, for funding a benchmarking visit of the Commission to Finland and providing technical support through Professor Hannele, who flew in and worked remotely to support the Commission. Finland, as we all know, is a country that is well known for its excellent education system, and so we cannot thank the Government and the people of Finland, together with Finn Church Aid, enough for their contribution.” ➡️ Read about the full report and its findings at our website: https://lnkd.in/d7x3k5yB
