🎄 Day 23 of our Christmas calendar: ICS24 Conference 🎄   #ICS24 Conference witnessed record-breaking participation from researchers of the UEF CECE. This highlights #CECE’s growing influence as an actor in advancing research and collaboration in circular economy and sustainability related themes. #CECE researchers presented studies on topics such as circular ecosystems, circular plastics, sustainable business models, resilience, digital technologies and many more. We are incredibly proud of #CECE researchers at #ICS24! Overall ICS24 was a success, we received a lot of positive feedback – everything worked like clockwork! With over 200 registered attendees participated both in Joensuu, Finland, and online, the event brought together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from diverse fields to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in society. There is more to come! The ICS25 will take place in Kuopio, Finland, on 30–31 October 2025. Stay tuned! 🎄 Day 22 of our Christmas calendar: 1st International PhD Workshop on Sustainable Innovation and Society 🎄   Announcement! We will organize the 2nd International PhD Workshop on Sustainable Innovation and Society as a pre-conference to the 5th International Conference for the Sustainable Resource Society (#ICS25) in Kuopio, Finland, next year 2025!  You are most welcome. Thematically, the PhD workshop will focus on ways to advance sustainability transition through practices, processes and people involved in sustainable innovation and renewal. The workshop will explore solutions for sustainable futures including operating models for economic growth and increased well-being without over-consumption of fossil fuels and natural resource.   On behalf of the organizing team of the workshop this year 2024 at #CECE -research center, Social Scientific Biosociety Research Network (#SOBIO) and Sustainability transformations doctoral education pilot (#SuSTra) we would like to thank all the participants! 🎄 Day 21 of our Christmas calendar: Plastics Circularity 🎄   UEF CECE joins consortium partners VTT, LUT University, and Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) - Suomen ympäristökeskus (Syke) in a Business Finland sponsored study called Plastics Circularity. This two year research plan works with industry partners to examine plastics from multiple framings. Our team is looking at value chains and effects of regulation in relation to plastics from raw materials to finished products and beyond. We are looking what the contemporary landscape of plastics in Finland is, and what the future may bring in terms of enabling and accelerating circularity. 🎄 Day 20 of our Christmas calendar: NFF Conference 2024 🎄   UEF CECE members Kristina Leppälä, Nuppu Mielonen and Ida Parkkinen were active at the 27th NFF Nordic Academy of Management's bi-annual conference in Reykjavík, Iceland! The scientific program at NFF is rigorous and top notch - 32 tracks and three symposia for global scholars. Our researchers presented three current works related to leadership, organizational behavior, and ecosystems. Nuppu Mielonen also participated in the PhD Workshop before the conference started, getting great feedback and inspiration for her ecosystem research. 🎄 Day 19 of our Christmas calendar: Master's Degree Programme in Sustainability Leadership 🎄 Today we’re thrilled to introduce our new Master’s Degree Programme in Sustainability Leadership at the #UEFBusinessSchool, which commenced this fall. This exciting new program is designed to equip future leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to drive sustainable change in their organizations and communities. In September, we were proud to welcome 11 new international students from all over the world, bringing diverse perspectives and experiences to our program. Our inaugural cohort includes passionate individuals from various backgrounds, all united by a common goal: to make a positive impact on the world. We’re excited to see the innovative projects and initiatives they will develop throughout their studies. We’re looking forward to an inspiring year ahead and can’t wait to share more updates on the progress and achievements of our students. A special thank you to Hanna Lehtimäki, Ida Parkkinen, Subhanjan Sengupta, Ville-Veikko Piispanen, Kaisa Henttonen, and Helena Kantanen who are teaching in this new program. 🎄 Day 18 of our Christmas calendar: Knowledge sharing and impact 🎄   Our professors Kaisa Henttonen and Hanna Lehtimäki were among the researchers who were invited to propose measures to boost economic growth in Finland. The report has been prepared for the #Kasvuriihi working group appointed by the Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo. The report delivers concrete proposals for the government's mid-term review to boost the growth of the private business sector. The report presents 45 measures including measures related to the green transition (12 measures), capital markets (11), RDI (10), labor supply and skills (6), business dynamics, competition promotion and trade policy (3) and digitalization (3). 🎄 Day 17 of our Christmas calendar: AoM Conference 2024 🎄   Kaisa Henttonen represented #CECE at AoM in Chicago in August 2024 with colleagues Eeva Aromaa and Pasi Hirvonen from the University of Eastern Finland. Kaisa’s a paper focused on how actual entrepreneurs experience and display circularity in the context of their ventures. Paper will follow!   Fun fact learned during the conference: Did you know that the number of words a human speaks in a day is 16000 and 800-1000 of them are unique. We can remember (at our prime) around 7 things at the same time. How we put things into words matter. Limits of science is to organize novel elements within our capacity to express and remember things. Narratives and stories display themselves as pretty important tools from this perspective. 🎄 Day 15 of our Christmas calendar: Conference highlights - EGOS 2024 🎄 UEF CECE team members Hanna Lehtimäki and Ida Parkkinen from UEF Business School attended the 40th EGOS - European Group for Organizational Studies - Colloquium hosted by the University of Milan-Bicocca in Milan, Italy in July, and it was a memorable experience for learning, networking, and inspiration. #EGOS2024 They attended insightful sessions on system-level change: addressing the environmental crisis (sub-theme 15) and social innovation: organizing and collaborating for shared value (sub-theme 66), which provided them with new perspectives and innovative ideas to bring back to their work. Both presented their ongoing research on circular economy and multistakeholder dynamics, respectively. The feedback and engaging discussions that followed were truly rewarding. Connecting with fellow researchers was a highlight, and it was inspiring to see so many passionate professionals in one place. Being grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a dynamic event, they are excited to apply what they’ve learned to their ongoing projects. A big thank you to the organizers and everyone involved for making it an unforgettable experience.
