#SDGs| 👉 EMBRC works to accelerate innovation and technological development and contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. 🔵 One goal we're working towards is SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. 👉 Part of our work is focused on helping the aquaculture sector to develop sustainable practices: 🔹 In 2024, EMBRC joined the European Aquaculture Technology & Innovation Platform (EATIP) as part of our ongoing strategy to support the European Blue Economy through aquaculture development. 🔹 We can help industry conducting aquaculture R&D by enabling innovation through co-development of new technologies and prototype testing. 🔹 EMBRC is the most suitable partner to enhance scientific excellence in the aquaculture sector thanks to our focus on supporting industry through our services, expertise and resources across Europe (which include facilities for feed trials, up-scaling, selective breeding, genetic studies, and testing of innovative disease-control approaches). The ocean has the potential to create a sustainable future for billions of people if we can understand it and harness its potential. Thanks to EMBRC’s 10 country members, we’re helping researchers find solutions as we move towards a Blue Bioeconomy where the ocean’s resources are used and produced sustainably. #UNSDGs #SDGs #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #ScientificServices EMBRC Spain EMBRC Belgium EMBRC France EMBRC Greece Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) CIIMAR Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn Tvärminne Zoological Station Ghent University Hellenic Centre for Marine Research Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture Mery Piña

À propos
EMBRC a research infrastructure that accelerates marine biology and ecology research in Europe. Through a network of 80 marine sites across Europe, we provide access to marine biodiversity and ecosystems, and services and expertise in marine science to help researchers from academia and industry study the ocean and speed up discoveries to develop innovative solutions for the environment and the sustainable blue bioeconomy. EMBRC fills gaps in ocean observation data through EMO BON (European Marine Omics Biodiversity Observation Network), the first coordinated long-term genomic biodiversity observatory in Europe that studies marine life using DNA techniques. EMO BON is part of the UN Ocean Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development through the OBON programme. In the face of global environmental challenges, EMBRC promotes global science-based decision-making to support biodiversity management policies for a sustainable future worldwide. The organisation is part of the ESFRI roadmap and operates under the legal status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), granted by the European Commission.

#Event2025 | How Can We Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance in Mediterranean Aquaculture? 🌊 🙏 A big thank you to everyone who joined our #EMBRCTechWebinar on Innovative Disease Control Strategies for Marine Aquaculture. 🎙️ As Dr. Pantelis Katharios, founder of Aquatic Biologicals and senior researcher at Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, emphasized: “Aquaculture is facing significant challenges due to antimicrobial resistance, exacerbated by excessive antibiotic use. The European Commission has raised alarms about the risks associated with drug-resistant bacteria in aquatic environments.” Despite the Mediterranean being a growing aquaculture market, its fragmentation — with over 20 different fish species — makes it less attractive to pharmaceutical companies compared to the more standardised salmon market, which benefits from better access to licensed vaccines. 💡 How can we overcome these challenges? 🎥 Watch the webinar to discover innovative solutions: https://lnkd.in/e3f_YGuE 💊 Dr. Katharios explores cutting-edge approaches, including autogenous vaccines tailored to local pathogens and bacteriophage therapy as a sustainable alternative to antibiotics. 🐠 Let’s work together to build a healthier, more resilient future for Mediterranean aquaculture! #Aquaculture #Vaccines #MarineLife #DiseaseControl #SustainableAquaculture EMBRC Greece Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture Mery Piña Melanthia Stavroulaki EMBRC Spain EMBRC Belgium EMBRC France AQUASERV AgroServ Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) CIIMAR AQUAEXCEL3.0 Kotoulas Georgios EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries Landing Aquaculture BV EATIP INVE Aquaculture Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) DGAMPA - Affaires maritimes, pêche et aquaculture
