A special thank you to those who emphasized the importance of men’s role in parenting 💬 – not only in sharing the care 🤝, but also in breaking down traditional gender roles 💪. When men actively participate in caregiving, it fosters mutual respect 🙌, challenges stereotypes, and sets a positive example for future generations 🌟. Stay tuned for a full look back at the event, including key takeaways on how we can all contribute to a more equitable future. 📣 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 – 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧? 🗓️ Find out by joining our UN team and our speakers at #CSocD63 on February 12th. Angela Garcia Romero Wessel van den Berg PhD Markus Sandmayr Francisco Cos-Montiel will come together to shed light on how a more equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work can contribute to social cohesion. They will stress that: 👉 Families must be considered as a critical starting point for social development. 👉 Equal parenting and the involvement of fathers/men in caregiving is a clear pathway to building a society that values care and fosters solidarity, social inclusion and social cohesion. 👉 The challenges faced by mothers as primary caregivers, including the impact on their physical and mental health, as well as on their economic prospects (motherhood penalty), must not go unaddressed. 📆 February 12 – 10:00-11:15 am New York / 16:00-17:15 pm Paris 📍 Online – register now: https://lnkd.in/ev9f9JKg #EqualParenting #ShareTheCare #CSocD63 Global Alliance for Care / Alianza Global por los Cuidados UNRISD Be Family, Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice NGO Committee on Social Development UN Women Farah Arabe JACQUELINE LEDUC ESTRADA Sarah Krimi

📣 We have said it many times and will continue to say it: 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. ❗️In our written statement to the upcoming 63rd United Nations Commission for Social Development, we point out how governments are failing to support mothers as pivotal drivers of social development, given the unaddressed issue of unpaid care work. ❗️In today’s world, not only is mothering usually unsupported and undervalued, but it also happens in an environment where policies and social norms often penalise mothers. At our virtual #CSocD63 side event on February 12th, we will push this message home: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞. “𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭” - Begoña Lasagabaster - UNESCO’s Director of the Gender Equality Division. We have been at UNESCO headquarters in Paris for the 3–day International Conference of NGOs (ICNGOs), a celebration of civil society’s contributions in advocating for education, science and culture. As the deadline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals approaches, the UNESCO Program for 2026-2029 constitutes a key document to orchestrate the last push towards delivering on the 17 targets. Patriarchal structures remain very much entrenched and there is still a long way to go towards achieving SDG 5 (gender equality) everywhere and for all. The conference allowed our team Marie-Liesse Mandula Brigitte Marais Marie-Domitille Delecourt and Manon ROBIN to evaluate the work that still needs to be done. We addressed 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 to be voted on by Member States in 2025, and stressed the importance of empowering women and girls through education. We voted for a new 𝐍𝐆𝐎-𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎 𝐋𝐢𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 and congratulate the elected President Svetlomira Stoyanova and her new team. We look forward to working collectively towards achieving our common goals. Hannah Grover's message was compelling: “𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐝𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝”. We at MMM will continue, together with our partners, to advocate at every level to ensure women and girls are empowered and autonomous in making life choices.
