In 2024, Europe witnessed an unprecedented number of national elections. While some countries have made steps forward to promote and protect children’s rights, others need to intensify their efforts. This diversity is reflected in the lived realities of children across Europe. With insights from 57 Eurochild members across 31 European countries, we identified recommendations for decision-makers to address children’s needs starting from the realities in which they live. ‘No more waiting, no more delay, time to act is here, now and today’ – Rhythm, 16 years old. On #WorldChildrensDay, the Eurochild Children's Council met with Members of the European Parliament to raise their voices on the urgent need to prioritise children’s rights across Europe and beyond. Their message is simple and clear: children are not just the citizens of tomorrow, the decisions made today shape their present and future and they must be part of the conversation. Watch our new video in collaboration with The Youth to find out more about their experience in Brussels to create a Europe in which children’s voices are heard, respected, and acted upon: https://lnkd.in/dxPUr7zK Roberta Metsola PULSE Foundation Национална мрежа за децата / National Network for Children The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society Το Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού - The Smile of the Child Hintalovon Alapítvány Foróige Children's Rights Alliance Tako Rietveld FONPC Zveza prijateljev mladine Slovenije / Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth (SAFY)/ZPMS Children in Wales - Plant yng Nghymru

"Children are often seen as passive recipients of policies, not as active participants" said Amina from Ireland. Yesterday during the #WorldChildrensDay celebrations at the European Parliament with Child Rights Action Group allies and MEPs, the Eurochild Children's Council members together with other young people from across Europe urged decision-makers to prioritise #childrights and #childparticipation with a specific focus on mental health and wellbeing, education, environment, child protection online and offline. 📸https://lnkd.in/e5Pum7jW

On #WorldChildrensDay Eurochild is launching a new report on the current state of #childrights and #childpoverty in Europe based on the realities of children across the continent with concrete measures to address their needs. We are witnessing troubling setbacks across Europe especially for children in vulnerable situations. According to the latest Eurostat data for 2023, 24.8% of children in the EU were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Compared to 2022, child poverty remains too high. ❗️ On World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence we are sharing some key insights from our #VOICEResearch, developed together with ECPAT International and Terre des Hommes Netherlands: 🔹 Children expressed concern about how others can misuse the personal information they share #online and contact them with bad intentions, especially for sexual abuse purposes; 🔹 3 in 4 children know what to do when at risk of #onlineharm BUT conversations with them revealed they felt left alone to deal with online risk; 🔹Online child sexual abuse is going undetected: children see reporting and blocking tools as ineffective and seem to have normalised online harm; 🔹 31% of children indicated that it is difficult to talk with parents about online safety. ➡️Governments and #OnlinePlatforms must do better to ensure all children are protected.
