À propos
The Ocean & Climate Platform (OCP) is an international network bringing together more than 100 organisations from civil society (non-governmental organisations, research institutes, foundations, local authorities, international organisations and private sector entities). Created in the run-up to COP21 in Paris, the OCP aims to promote scientific expertise on the major role played by the ocean and its ecosystems in the climate system, and to advocate for better consideration of these interactions by national and international decision-makers. Building on the wide-ranging expertise of its members, the OCP brings light to concrete solutions to protect the ocean, its biodiversity and the climate.

An Ocean of Possibilities: Envisioning the Future of Ocean Sustainability workshop began yesterday in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania as part of the Regenerative Ocean Week. This in-person working session brings together experts, scientists, governments, and NGOs to collaboratively develop a vision for the future of the ocean and identify the pathways to achieve it. The discussions will focus on UN Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, defining the necessary actions to safeguard the ocean in time to protect the planet's largest ecosystem. Through Visioning, an innovative methodology that imagines desirable futures and determines the steps needed to reach them, participants will work across sectors and disciplines to generate new ideas and reinforce the connection between people and the ocean. Building on the conclusions of this exercise, a collective vision from civil society will be presented at UNOC3 in the form of a manifesto, with the goal of inspiring transformative change and becoming part of the conference's lasting legacy. Thank you to the Ocean & Climate Platform, CNRS, and Friends of Ocean Action for your collaboration in making this initiative possible! 🌊🏙️ #SEATIES is one of the many #OceanDecade initiatives driving knowledge and policy forward to help #CoastalCities become more resilient to #ClimateChange and #SeaLevelRise! 🌍 https://lnkd.in/depNfxs ⏳ Just four months before #UNOC3 and the launch of the Ocean Rise & Coastal Resilience initiative—coordinated by the Ocean & Climate Platform and Ville de Nice w. the support of Gouvernement of France Presidencia de la República de Costa Rica—the first Ocean Decade International Coastal Cities Conference provides a crucial opportunity to reflect on priorities and exchange experiences. 🤝 https://lnkd.in/e4BQXKZk 🙏 Thank you UNESCO Ocean & UN Ocean Decade for your critical support to these endeavors!
Coastal cities are booming: over a third of the world’s population now lives within 100km of the sea. But these cities face unprecedented challenges – they are on the frontlines of sea-level rise due to climate change, ocean pollution, and other adverse impacts of human activities. The good news? Ocean science can help bring about solutions to help coastal cities fully benefit from the ocean while remaining safe and sustainable. As part of the #OceanDecade, scientists and experts across the world are pioneering innovative solutions through science, technology, policy, and community action to shape the future of coastal cities. These include: 🔵 In Australia, Project Restore is bringing nature back to Sydney Harbour through a unique approach to restore urban seascapes. 🔵 Across the world, the Ocean & Climate Platform platform has mobilized mayors and key urban players to share best practices to adapt to climate change through its Sea'ties project. Building on this, the Ocean & Climate Platform will launch, in coordination with the City of Nice, the Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Coalition on 7 June, ahead of the upcoming 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference (9-13 June 2025, Nice, France). 🔵 In Canada, INREST is using artificial intelligence to prevent pollution spikes in Canada's largest ore port, and is expanding to ensure environmental prevention in various harbour areas – a world first. 👉 Find out more in the first story of our new series "Ocean science in action", which highlights achievements and success stories from our network of endorsed Decade Actions at the mid-way point of the #OceanDecade: https://ow.ly/1rf750V669L 👉 This week, the first-ever Ocean Decade International Coastal Cities Conference gathers key stakeholders from coastal cities and regions in Qingdao, China, to effectively co-design ocean science for resilient coastal cities: https://ow.ly/7fc550V669K

[UNOC3] Starting today, members of the ocean community convene in Tanzania for the first edition of the Regenerative Ocean Week #ROW! As part of this exciting 4-day conference, the Ocean & Climate Platform, CNRS, and Friends of Ocean Action, with the support of Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy, are hosting a unique workshop dedicated to envisioning the future of ocean sustainability! 🌊 During the next few days, experts and ocean advocates will be gathered in Dar Es Salaam to discuss and outline what the future of ocean sustainability could look like. This work aligns with the outcomes of the consultation ”A Call To All The Voices of the Ocean” conducted by the Ocean & Climate Platform and The Varda Group in 2023, in which civil society organisations identified the need to anticipe the future of the ocean post-2030 as a priority. While substantial efforts must be made to achieve global goals set for 2030, now is the time to build the foundations of a long-term vision for the world we want to achieve. Stay tuned to learn more about the outcomes and thank you to all our participants for joining! #OceanSustainability #OceanAction #Creativity #RegenerativeOceanWeek #Sustainability — Shauna Mahajan Abongile Ngqongwa

🌍 February 20 marks the #WorldDay of #SocialJustice, a crucial issue at the intersection of #climate challenges and #adaptation to rising sea levels 🌊.🔎 Social justice is one of the 4 priorities of the #SEATIES policy recommendations for adapting coastal cities. 👉 Explore the recommendations: https://lnkd.in/eu3ryGbs 📢 Why does it matter? #SeaLevelRise disproportionately impact the most vulnerable communities. Worse, some adaptation policies could exacerbate inequalities—a phenomenon known as #maladaptation. ⚖️ Social equity must be at the heart of adaptation! Thus, we must: 🔹 Protect the livelihoods of the most vulnerable and prevent #climategentrification 💰 🔹 Co-develop a desirable future for coastal areas with local communities 🏙️🌱 🔹 Invest in awareness and community engagement, fostering inclusive dialogue spaces 🗣️🤝 💡 This critical issue will also take center stage at the United Nations Ocean Conference (#UNOC3), co-hosted by the Gouvernement of France & the Presidencia de la República de Costa Rica:📅 on June 7, a Summit will bring together coastal cities, regions, and small island states for the launch of the Ocean Rise & Coastal Resilience Coalition, chaired by the City of Nice and coordinated by Ocean & Climate Platform.📌 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e8r8zfZN
