Who are the best and worst performers on carbon emissions in fashion? For my latest newsletter, I looked at the publicly available information from leading fashion brands to explore trends in both revenue-intensity emissions and absolute emissions. A few takeaways: 1️⃣ Emission profiles vary significantly across the luxury, mass, premium and sportswear segments - the segmentation was based on an ongoing project for PARIS GOOD FASHION supported by the DEFI La Mode de France. This encourages us to take a more granular approach to decarbonisation that considers the differences in emission profiles. 2️⃣ Over the past three years, 81% of analysed companies reduced their emission intensity - some by up to 30%. 3️⃣ Absolute emissions remain stubbornly high, but 56% of companies have been able to reduce emissions, some by up to 13% between 2021 and 2023. My bet is that the winners of the next decade, across all segments - although it will be easier for some than others - will be those who successfully decouple revenue growth from emissions, while maintaining or improving profitability. What are your perspectives on the most effective decarbonisations levers - maybe based on companies segments? You will find more details about the analysis and details on the actions companies have taken to reduce their emission in my latest Substack - link in comments. As always extremely thankful to Isabelle Lefort for her support in shaping this analysis. Swanstant #sustainability #fashion #emissions #decarbonisation
