Gestion des associations et fondations
Community-based, circular ideas for the outdoor industry
À propos
Re-Action is a not-for-profit global network of sports retailers and not-for-profits with a shared vision of a greener outdoor sports industry. It aims to redefine outdoor equipment and clothing retail by changing the model. This is achieved through engaging and educating communities on circular models of repair, repurpose, rental and reuse. Through its work, Re-Action will help members save resources, reduce waste and reduce carbon emissions by cutting out the need for international supply lines, whilst up-skilling their local communities. By repurposing, renting and repairing equipment and clothing, Re-Action is making snow sports, cycling, climbing, surfing and getting outdoors in the right kit more affordable and therefore accessible.

This morning I sent out our UK for Good newsletter to encourage our readers to boycott Black Friday and choose kindness over consumption. I love it when we receive feedback; it's good to know that what we share is of some value. This morning, it was Scott Johnson who emailed me to tell me about the #CitizenFriday campaign - it's also a call not to be drawn in to the Black Friday nonsense, and it is a beautifully communicated message. There are loads of brilliant organisations and individuals who are actively making better choices for people and our planet, not just on Black Friday, but every day. The #CitizenFriday campaign from Re-Action Collective offers the perfect antidote to Black Friday: 🤝🏼 share, 🪡 repair, 🚶🏽♀️ get out in the fresh air Love it! Thank you for sharing Scott, and keep up the great work Re-Action Collective :) Read more here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eMnjucD5

If you're anything like me, you'll be tearing your hair out over the Black Friday, Green Friday, Blue Friday, Business As Usual and more-than-usual advertising. #CitizenFriday is the antidote to all that, and I've found myself calling on the ideas we came up with this time last year (#Share, #Repair and #GetOutInTheFreshAir) more than ever in the last few weeks. Just yesterday (having watched 'Buy Now' the evening before) I spent about 10 minutes just standing in our shared allotment garden in my wellies, after depositing our veggie peelings in the compost, just being out there, noticing the insects, the plants, the sounds and the sky. And it really helped. In the last couple of days I've also been sharing Re-Action Collective's experience of the consensus-finding tool, Pol.is, with other groups who are interested in using it like the The Green Runners and the Citizen Collective, the brainchild of Jon Alexander. If you aren't aware, we started 3 conversation to find out which ideas resonate with people on the subjects of: - re-imagining access to the outdoors - re-imagining outdoor clothing and equipment and - re-imagining outdoor events that are future fit for people and planet. We'll be sharing some of the results with you tomorrow to brighten up your 'black Friday' with ideas that can inspire positive change so watch this space.

24hrs till the BIG Citizen Friday, formerly known as Black Friday! 🎉 Around a year ago, Re-Action Collective launched Citizen Friday campaign as an antidote to the Black Friday frenzy. 🛒 Since then, it’s become something we all look forward to every week—a quiet, collective celebration of choosing community, creativity, and connection over buying stuff. It’s turned into a movement of our own making, with folks picking up the message and running with it. A whole year of shifting how we approach our week, peeling back the layers of the “consumer story” and finding so much more joy and connection underneath. 🧡 Let’s be clear—renaming it Green Friday or Blue Friday doesn’t change the game. It’s still the same cycle of overconsumption, just wrapped in a slightly greener bow. While Black/ Green/ Blue Friday screams, “BUY MORE,” we’re here for: 🌟 Discovering what makes you tick 🌲 Getting back to your roots 🕺 Doing what’s better for your soul, the planet, and your community This is our kind of “deal”: 🎽 Getting outdoors - reconnecting with nature and yourselves 💚 Sharing - your time, skills and what brings you joy with others 🪡 Repairing So here’s to CITIZEN FRIDAY —a moment to step back, take a breath, and remember we’re part of something bigger. Together, we can redefine what really matters. “I think this system is already in collapse, and therefore the system will change. Cracks are appearing. If that is the case we should be putting energy into reimagining our future. That can begin with the individual, and I think it starts with an internal conversation. Questioning all of the things we have told ourselves, and sitting with questions rather than answers. I think system change starts with an internal awakening, building into a collective awakening. It starts with refusing to accept the stories we have told ourselves. Citizen Friday has led me to realise that we’ve all collectively been living lies, we’re all implicated, and entangled in this system. We are the system. Our stories of progress and the othering, of each other and of the natural world are deeply flawed.” Gavin Fernie-Jones Tomorrow we’re unveiling a snapshot of the results from Outdoors 2.0. 👀 We’ve been asking … How people FEEL about the outdoor industry? What can we REIMAGINE about apparel, events, and access? The outdoor industry has lost its way, chasing profits at the expense of people and planet. Urgh. 🫠 But there’s another way a -future we can co-create. One that centers human hearts, connection and our beautiful home planet. Sounds better right? Are you in?

#BlackFriday is looming. You are most likely receiving thousands of prompts daily, to buy more and buy now. You are being cultivated to consume, distracted from the impact of your consumption, and disconnected from doing things that might actually make you happier. Inspired by the folk at Re-Action Collective, Reach Volunteering is calling for #CitizenFriday Resist the call to consume. There is so much more to you! Re-connect with what matters to you - what you really care about and what brings you joy. Your sense of agency and purpose. Re-act - take action today! We'd encourage you to find a group doing something you care about, and contribute your skills. It will bring a sense of agency, of connection and of pride. We've got hundreds of brilliant opportunities - links in comments. But really, any action is good as long as its not buying more stuff. Highly recommend this documentary
I went to the launch of the Netflix documentary, Buy Now last night. It's an unflinching attack on the systems, businesses and brands that cultivate consumerism. I'd encourage everyone in my network to watch it, if you are interested in brands, business, sustainability or simply have an iPhone or shop on Amazon (both Apple and Amazon take a bit of a battering in the film). It's a great example of a complex, and for most of us pretty unpalatable, subject being tackled in a way that makes it accessible. It made me think about the work I do to help businesses balance growth, sustainability, and positive social impact. Buy Now was a sobering reminder of the powerful forces that underpin the principles of 'growth', and also the challenge for those of us trying to create change in businesses, to not just create distraction or obfuscation. Congratulations to everyone who worked on the film, and made it happen including my brilliant brother Jake Hayman. https://lnkd.in/ewKgVx7r

Something a little different for us at Preloved Sports CIC 😉
Reusable race numbers anyone 😉 Since we made the reusable patches for Julia Davies and Gwent Wildlife Trust, we received a message from Oliver asking if we could create race numbers that can be reused time and time again. We got our thinking caps on and agreed to create a sample batch of 30 numbers to see how this would work and perform in a real world environment. The transfers were ordered from Supacolour UK Ltd and arrived within a couple of days. There was a box of white vests in our lockup which would be perfect for this project so we created a template and cut out the squares required for the project. Yesterday, we got to work in creating these race numbers (along with our patches for our friends over at Into Ultra and The Green Runners ). The race numbers are basic to start with but have the scope to add logos etc. Traditional Tyvek numbers are cheap and cannot be recycled. Although we couldn’t compete on price, these race number can be washed (the transfers are guaranteed for 80 washes but after 9 races, they would start to pay for themselves, creating a solution that is affordable and more sustainable. It feels like a good week to reshare an article I wrote last year about making Black Friday greener. By focusing on new ways to shop (or not shop!) and new gift giving traditions, we can make the holidays a little greener and a little less stressful! Re-Action Collective
It probably comes as no surprise that #BlackFriday is not my favorite day of the year. But what if we make it a little bit greener? What could a #GreenFriday look like? Maybe it means buying secondhand. Maybe it means creating new holiday traditions where instead of stressing about finding gifts for family, you focus on donations or experiences. Or maybe it means shifting the focus a day and celebrating #SmallBusinessSaturday by supporting those brands that are doing things differently and focusing on responsible production, quality and durability. Or maybe you skip it all together and #optoutside. Not shopping on Black Friday doesn't mean you have to miss out on anything! For more inspiration, also check out Re-Action and their #CitizenFriday campaign! #TheGreenOstrich #overproduction #overconsumption #consumerism #fastfashion https://lnkd.in/e4uETEHd

For many of us, this upcoming Friday is Black Friday - a day of planned and encouraged uber spending and consumption (at least the retail industry hopes). At SUPER, we love the idea of #CitizenFriday, the idea of 'citizen-ING' or using our agency as people to connect with others or nature instead of shopping. Jon’s book reminds us to think of ourselves as citizens before consumers because when we do, we’re more likely to participate, volunteer and come together to make our communities and society stronger. For those of us in the United States, this might be a better way to think of giving thanks this Thanksgiving holiday. We learned about this program from Re-Action Collective and Jon Alexander's New Citizen Project and want to share the idea with you. There are 3 elements to Citizen Friday: Share, Repair, and Get out in the fresh air. The idea is to slow down and re-connect with ourselves, our communities and our beautiful world. If you can get outside, enjoy some grean and Enjoy! #CitizensNotConsumers #BeSUPER #SingleUsePlastics #ThinkOutsideThePlastic

With one week to go before what most people call #BlackFriday, this new Netflix documentary is now available to stream, exposing the blackest of the black... and more importantly, I'm getting excited for #CitizenFriday... This is a post to encourage you to watch the trailer and the film, because they're great and they matter - but to know there's an antidote too, and one you can get involved with. #CitizenFriday is a campaign initiated by the awesome folks at the Re-Action Collective this time last year. Appalled by the idea that all the energy of so many people and organisations was going into getting us to buy more (or even, with various tweaks on the colour scheme for the day, to buy a little different), they decided to put something completely different out into the world. It's a call to arms NOT to shop, but instead to... 🫂 Share - connecting with community, sharing resources or time or ideas or whatever 🪡 Repair - fix something, as the very personal yet ultimate act of rebellion against buying everything new 🌳 Get out in the fresh air - instead of into the shops... In its second year, #CitizenFriday is gaining serious momentum. I obviously love it, because it really captures the spirit of what I believe the Citizen Story is all about: not just a lamentation of what's wrong with the Consumer Story we're trapped in, but a positive offer of a meaningful alternative. Big love to Gavin Fernie-Jones Heather Davies Ellie Meredith and all involved - as well as to Jake Hayman and all those involved in BUY NOW. 👏 👏 👏

Happy #citizenfriday big thanks to Reach Volunteering for championing the message!
💡 What matters to you most? 💡 As part of our #CitizenFriday campaign, we’re encouraging everyone to take time away from the relentless pressure to consume, reconnect with the things that matter and take action towards creating a better society. We know it’s a hectic time of year, but why not hit pause for a moment and stop to think. What are the things that matter to you most? What do you really care about? Is it buying all these highly marketed products to create the perfect Christmas for you and your loved ones? Or is it something more fundamental like spending time together, going for a walk in the park or helping other people in need? Volunteers tell us that they find their volunteering rewarding; it gives a sense of purpose and achievement. Does this resonate with you? We'd love to hear your thoughts. Vote in our poll below or tell us what matters to you most in the comments. 👇 Find out more about our #CitizenFriday campaign: https://lnkd.in/dwr5mJVx Thanks to Re-Action Collective and New Citizen Project for the campaign inspiration. #CitizenFriday #BlackFriday #CitizensNotConsumers #Citizens
