Over the past two years, Friends of Rosie has funded a £145,000 research project into the use of a revolutionary new blood test to diagnose Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer in children. Now complete, this pioneering new research has shown promising initial results which the research team are looking to take forward as part of a wider, European study. This vital project researched the development of blood tests (also known as liquid biopsies) to show whether Ewing Sarcoma treatment is working or to detect the cancer early if it comes back. In this study, the researchers aimed to develop a liquid biopsy blood test for Ewing Sarcoma patients. Their specific objectives were to work out, firstly, which blood test would work best. Secondly, which type of analysis would be most successful at detecting Ewing Sarcoma. Click below to find out more about the promising results from this two year study. https://lnkd.in/ebPwZa6B Our huge thanks go to all of our supporters who have made this research possible. We also thank the two other charities, The Bradley Lowery Foundation and Megan's Rose Of Hope, who collaborated with us on this project. Together we will be the difference for children with cancer. #bethedifference #ewingsarcoma #biomarker #childhoodcancer #manchester #research

🎗️ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of early detection and inclusive breast cancer screening for everyone. Breast cancer affects a diverse range of people, and we must ensure that screening and resources reach all communities—including those who are traditionally underserved, such as racialized women, LGBTQ+ individuals, transgender and non-binary people, and others in hard-to-reach populations. Let’s use this month not only to support those impacted by breast cancer but also to advocate for equitable, accessible, and affirming screening programs for all. Reaching every individual, regardless of identity or background, is essential to building healthier communities and ensuring early detection for all. Together, we can make breast cancer prevention and care truly inclusive. 💖 #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #InclusiveHealthcare #EarlyDetection #HealthEquity #BreastCancerScreening #PrimaryCare #CancerPrevention #LGBTQHealth #RacialHealthEquity

How Early Detection Saved Dr Pamela’s Life: Her Story Then and Now 👉 “Do you have regular breast examinations and imaging?” Dr Pamela Hendry, now in her late 60s, responded back in 2021: “Yes, I’ve been having annual breast exams and imaging since I turned 40. My oncologist oversees my check-ups, and my GP schedules mammograms and ultrasounds each year.” Her story is one that started with proactive health measures. But on February 5, 2013, at age 54, Pamela was diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection was the key to saving her life—thanks to the mammograms and ultrasounds she had committed to for over a decade before her diagnosis. Even though it was a frightening diagnosis, her story is one of vigilance and education. What many women may not realise is that her regular imaging led to an early diagnosis, giving her a higher chance of survival. As a radiologist, Pamela’s story is a powerful reminder of the critical role we play in empowering women with knowledge and ensuring they get the right screening at the right time. Her unwavering commitment to her health led to an early diagnosis, where treatment options were most effective. The key takeaway? Don't wait. Early detection saves lives. After surviving breast cancer, Pamela didn’t stop at focusing on her health—she turned her journey into a mission to help others. She founded The Ladybird Foundation Limited, an organisation dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer and gynaecological cancer research in Western Australia. Through this foundation, Pamela advocates for greater awareness and supports women in receiving the education and early detection tools they need. Her message is clear: self-awareness and regular imaging are essential to catching breast cancer early when it’s most treatable. Pamela’s story is a powerful reminder for women everywhere to take control of their health. When was the last time you had a mammogram or ultrasound? Early detection could be your best defense. To read Pamela's full story and learn more about her advocacy work through The Ladybird Foundation, visit The Brilliant Foundation here: https://lnkd.in/gCk4NvVQ Join the fight against breast cancer by supporting research and raising awareness this Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 💪 Let’s keep spreading the message—early detection can save your life! #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #MammogramMatters #LadybirdFoundation #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #WomensHealthMatters #DrPamelaStory #BreastImagingAwareness

Get well soon, King Charles III. Will KCIII have Kylie's 'golden touch', and we see in the UK (+AUS) another wave of unprecedented cancer screening tests, knowledge building, and donations to cancer research charity(s), like we did 18 years ago? ℹ️ Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles, 75, has a form of cancer, that he started regular treatment for on Monday 5 February 2024. It is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate. #FxckCancer #Menshealth #Healthawareness CONTEXT NOTE: The King has been diagnosed with an incidental cancer following surgery, what on the current NHS would have been an elective operation. The UK public health waiting lists, are long in England, with approximately 27,000 people at this moment will have an incidental cancer like KCIII, but won't know it yet, as they've not been seen for a medical diagnosis. Scary. DATA NOTE: As of November 2023, the overall number of waits for non-emergency care in England stood at around 7.6 million. While there was a slight decrease on the number of waits compared with the previous month, that figure is roughly 400,000 higher than at the start of 2023. https://lnkd.in/gXhvzJT6 Formal information released Tuesday 6 Feb, 2024. 0500AM AEDT. 1800PM UTC (05/02/24).
