Ridin' down, ridin' down
My hand on your seat the whole way round
I carry Band-Aids on me now
For when your soft hands hit the jagged ground
Wheels aren't even touchin' the ground
Scared to take them off, but they're so worn down
Promise I won't push you straight to the dirt
If you promise me you'll take them off first
[Chorus]
I love everything you do
When you call me fuckin' dumb for the stupid shit I do
Wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
And I'll pull them off for you
I love everything you do
When you call me fuckin' dumb for the stupid shit I do
Wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
And I'll pull them off for you
[Verse 2]
Lettin' go, lettin' go
Tellin' you things you already know
I explode, I explode
Askin' you where you want us to go
You've been ridin' two-wheelers all your life
It's not like I'm askin' to be your wife
I wanna make you mine, but that's hard to say
Is this comin' off in a cheesy way?
I love everything you do
When you call me fuckin' dumb for the stupid shit I do
Wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
And I'll pull them off for you
I love everything you do
When you call me fuckin' dumb for the stupid shit I do
Wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
And I'll pull them off for you
[Bridge]
(I love everything you do)
(Let me ride my bike with you)
(No training wheels left for you)
[Chorus]
I love everything you do
When you call me fuckin' dumb for the stupid shit I do
Wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
And I'll pull them off for you
I love everything you do
When you call me fuckin' dumb for the stupid shit I do
Wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
And I'll pull them off for you
About
Melanie Martinez told Pop Dust that “Training Wheels” is the first love song she’s ever written:
I’m not used to writing happy songs like that. I wanted to challenge myself in that way, too. It’s about being OK with being in love. It means he’s riding a bike with training wheels, and I want to take them off and go to the next step. I wanna ride a two-wheeler with you. That’s the whole point of the song.
The music video for “Training Wheels” was released as a double feature with “Soap.”
The story and illustration for this song appears on the 15th page of the Cry Baby storybook, reading:
They rode their bikes so very slow
She wanted more as they rode close
Unscrewed his training wheels to grow
Into a two-wheeled bicycle

Martinez told Fuse:
‘Training Wheels’ is the love song of the album, and it’s the only real love song that I’ve ever written. Genuinely, I was very happy when writing it, in the moment, which is a very rare emotion to express in my music. It’s always usually sadder, angrier, just because music is like therapy for me, and that’s kind of how I get rid of those emotions.
She also told Pop Dust:
It’s the first love song I’ve ever written, honestly. It’s interesting because I’m not used to writing happy songs like that. I wanted to challenge myself in that way, too. It’s about being okay with being in love. It means he’s riding a bike with training wheels, and I want to take them off and go to the next step. I wanna ride a two-wheeler with you. That’s the whole point of the song.
She touched upon the songwriting process with Noisey:
I wrote this song in, like, 20 minutes. It was always a difficult experience writing to happy major chords. But somehow because of how happy and in love I really was, it came super quick.
