Whatever Lyrics
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want
I'm free to say whatever I
Whatever I like if it's wrong or right, it's alright
[Chorus]
Always seems to me
You only see what people want you to see
How long's it gonna be
Before we get on the bus and cause no fuss?
Get a grip on yourself it don't cost much
[Verse 2]
Free to be whatever you
Whatever you say if it comes my way, it's alright
You're free to be wherever you
Wherever you please you can shoot the breeze if you want
[Chorus]
It always seems to me
You only see what people want you to see
How long's it gonna be
Before we get on the bus and cause no fuss?
Get a grip on yourself it don't cost much
Free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want
[Bridge]
Here in my mind, you know you might find
Something that you, you thought you once knew
But now it's all gone, and you know it's no fun
Yeah, you know it's no fun, and you know it's no fun
[Verse 4]
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want
[Outro]
Whatever you do, whatever you say
Yeah, I know it's alright
Whatever you do, whatever you say
Yeah, I know it's alright
[Instrumental Outro]

About
“Whatever” was released as a single after the release of Definitely Maybe and was only included as a bonus track on the Mexican edition of Definitely Maybe. After Oasis split up it was released to a broader audience, when included on the single compilation album Time Flies… 1994-2009. The song is notable for its use of an orchestra. However, that was also what led to the song not being included on Definitely Maybe. At the time of recording the album, the band could not afford to hire an orchestra for the song.
The song came under fire for allegedly ripping off Neil Innes‘ song “How Sweet to Be an Idiot”. They later settled a plagiarism lawsuit and Innes received a songwriting credit.
The song was often performed live, ending with the lyrics to “Octopus’s Garden”.

Noel Gallagher on the song,
I think this kind of wraps up the first part of Oasis, Which is quite innocent and pure. It started to get very serious after that, we were kind of – a big rock band although we didn’t feel it at the time.
