Alex G (born Alexander Giannascoli; Feb. 3, 1993), formerly (Sandy) Alex G, is an American singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, suburbs. He has been recording music since his teens, amassing a sizable & dedicated internet fan base. Alex said in an interview with VICE that his rise to popularity came from him becoming “Bandcamp famous.”
In April 2017, Alex adopted the “(Sandy) Alex G” moniker to disambiguate himself from the female artist of the same name; however, in mid-2020, he dropped the “Sandy” and reverted to “Alex G” after the female pop singer changed her name to Alex Blue.
Alex G’s first album that was not self-published was DSU, released on June 17, 2014, through Orchid Tapes. It was a sleeper hit and gained acclaim on many music outlets, specifically Rolling Stone. After the album’s release, he briefly went on a tour in North America & Europe.
In 2015, he signed to a larger music publisher, Domino Recording Company. Through them, he released three albums, 2015’s Beach Music, 2017’s Rocket, and 2019’s House of Sugar. Domino also re-released two of Alex G’s previously published albums, TRICK & RULES.
