China Miéville’s Embassytown makes the Duran Duran Book Club

If you like the 1980s pop group Duran Duran, you’ll also love China Miéville’s latest novel, Embassytown. At least, Embassytown is the latest pick from Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon, who writes a passionate (and awesome) defense of reading science fiction:

When we read SF we want to be challenged; we want new ideas, new points of view; we want to break through and play with the possibilties of understanding and existing in an alternative reality to the one we’ve become used to. This, in a way, defines not just good science fiction, but good fiction generally, and Embassytown is most definitely both of those things.

Looking back through the archives, it looks like past selections have included Hannu Rajaniemi’s The Quantum Thief and Iain M. Banks’ Transmission. Turns out Simon has excellent taste in books.
