How My Appreciation for Super-Yachts Has Grown Despite My Intrinsic Love for Sailing Vessels. The first time I truly experienced sailing—and when I say "sailing," I mean really sailing—was with my boyfriend, who would later become my husband, on a Hobie Cat 16 gliding across the warm, crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea. With invigorating waves splashing against my face and gusts of wind propelling us to exhilarating speeds, I felt an unmatched rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins. In that electrifying moment, I knew two things for certain: I wanted to marry this incredible man, and I had fallen in love with sailing. Sailing offers a singular sensation—a harmonious connection with nature, an opportunity to bask in her beauty, and a profound sense of awe. This love for the purity of sailing is why, back then, whenever I saw the towering forms of power yachts, super-yachts, and mega-yachts anchored near our "modest" catamaran, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of pity for their passengers. To me, these colossal vessels seemed to lack the raw intimacy and freedom of a sailboat. But as life often teaches us, it’s wise not to judge too quickly.
