On October 24, 2024, the #Hellenic #Society for #Soil #Mechanics and #Geotechnical #Engineering (HSSMGE Greece) will host its 15th #Athenian #Lecture, presented by the esteemed Professor R. Kerry Rowe Rowe. The lecture will take place in Athens, focusing on the critical topic of #dam #rehabilitation.  The rehabilitation of old dams is vital, as many existing dams are facing significant #structural #issues due to age, #environmental #changes, and evolving #technical #standards. By upgrading these structures, we ensure that they can continue to serve #crucial #functions, such as #water #supply, #energy #production, and #flood #control, while also mitigating potential #risks. Two teams worked together to assess the disaster, identify lessons learned, propose actions to enhance the dam safety, UNESCO and ICOLD on one side, and the World Bank and the Dutch government on the other.
