A key priority for the embassy of the Netherlands in Athens is promoting sustainable and mutually beneficial trade relations between Greece and the Netherlands. Greece has ambitious plans to develop its offshore wind energy sector in the coming years. Dutch companies have much to offer in this sector, in terms of infrastructure, port development, consulting, logistical support and experience in R&D. To further explore this synergy, a Greek delegation from Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA S.A.) and PPC S.A. visited OEEC (Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference) in Amsterdam this week. During this visit, plans for future development were explored.

Bringing together government, industry and knowledge institutes in Defence and Security is now more relevant than ever. “Strong, smart, together” were the 3 keywords of the speech of H.E. Mr. Brekelmans, Minister of Defence of the Netherlands during the opening of the Netherlands Exhibition of Defence and Security (NEDS) yesterday in Rotterdam. At the NEDS (inter)national exhibitors presented the latest and most innovative products, solutions, and services in the industry. More than 130 country delegations had the opportunity to meet with key-decision makers and exhibitors of land, air, and naval vessels, sensors, unmanned systems, cybersecurity, space systems, and many more. Our Partners in Business International (PIB) Pavilion, was the meeting point for many visitors, including officials from the Greek Ministry of Defence, as well as the Ambassador of Greece H.E. Mrs Ghini. Our PIB program, now in its 4th year, promotes collaboration between Dutch and Greek defense industries. It showcases how we work together as one team, with one goal and one mission, to support security through our defense industries. Security that we need in Europe.

Today – Friday, 15 November marks the Day of the Entrepreneur (Dag van de Ondernemer) in the Netherlands. On this day, we celebrate entrepreneurship and put entrepreneurs and their business in the spotlight. In Greece, many Dutch entrepreneurs have started businesses in numerous sectors, including sustainable tourism, renewable energy, logistics, IT and many more. Ambassador Susanna Terstal opened the first workshop of Orange Grove’s new incubation round this week. She welcomed a fresh group of startups to an entrepreneurial ecosystem that has flourished over the past 11 years. What began as a single initiative has grown into a dynamic network, with projects like Entrepreneurial University and SDG House Greece expanding from Orange Grove’s core, inspiring sustainable innovation and collaboration. We’re excited to see what these new startups will bring to this evolving community!

SDG House Greece’s very first #ReflectionReport is out! SDG House Greece is a collaborative initiative launched by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Greece and Orange Grove. It is part of the Dutch SDG House network and SDG Nederland - and the first SDG House outside the Netherlands. The initiative aims to cultivate an ecosystem around sustainable growth, providing essential educational and networking support to small and medium-sized companies, as they work toward transforming their business models and becoming more impactful. In the same way that Orange Grove was founded over a decade ago to help bring together all elements needed for the growth of innovative entrepreneurship, SDG House Greece is here to empower businesses to grow responsibly, with a focus on sustainable practices that drive both impact and success.

Last week Ambassador Susanna Terstal and other colleagues of the Embassy participated to the selection committee of Orange Grove. They had the opportunity to interview aspiring entrepreneurs and early stage ventures, who applied for the upcoming Incubation Round. We are looking forward to meeting the teams that have been selected!

In the context of our program “Partners for International Business - Dutch Coalition for Defense and Security (PIB DCDS)”, our Embassy organised together with Hellenic Aerospace Security & Defense Industries Group (HASDIG) a Knowledge 2 Knowledge Symposium about Innovation in the Defense sector, and in particular about the F-35 program. A group of Dutch companies have travelled to Greece, together with high-level experts from the Dutch Ministry of Defense, and the Netherlands Industries For Defense & Security (NIDV) to meet with their Greek counterparts. After introductory presentations from both countries, the Dutch delegation shared success stories and lessons learned regarding the F-35 and highlighted related products. The second day was dedicated to a visit at the Hellenic Aerospace Industries (HAI) where our delegation was shown around the HAI premises and were able to extensively discuss with the HAI Board of Directors and government representatives. The reactions from both the Greek and Dutch side were very positive; both nations acknowledge the importance of innovation and this awareness creates the potential for bilateral collaboration between Greece and the Netherlands. The prospects of cooperation in the aerospace sector are very apparent, for example with the introduction of the F-35 in the Hellenic Airforce. It is known that the Netherlands has been an international member of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program since 2001, and there could be collaboration between governments, industries, and also the aviation of the two countries.
