🌟 Advancing the Frontiers of Optical and Quantum Communications 🌟 Last week, a successful joint experimental campaign was conducted by researchers from the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) and the PCRL - Photonics Communications Research Laboratory at the breathtaking Aristarchos Observatory on Mount Helmos (alt. 2,340m), in Peloponnese, Greece. 🔬 The experimental activities were supported by EU-funded LaiQa Project, where Helmos OGS is one of the infrastructure testbeds of the project. 🚀 During this campaign, light at the C-band telecom wavelength was launched in the telescope and successfully coupled from the 2.3-meter Aristarchos telescope into an optical Single Mode Fiber. This effort marks a significant step towards the use of Aristarchos telescope in classical/quantum communications. In addition, an evaluation of daylight background noise using Single Photon Detectors was conducted. Noise mitigation techniques demonstrated effective noise reduction, underscoring the feasibility of satellite-to-ground Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) communication. ✨This campaign showcases significant progress in integrating advanced optical technologies, paving the way for innovative applications in secure communications via QKD and laser-based satellite networks. A big congratulations to the team for this significant achievement and their contributions to the future of quantum communications! 👏✨ #Photonics #QuantumCommunications #QKD #LaiQaProject #AristarchosObservatory #Innovation #SecureCommunications

🌍✨ We’ve made our small contribution towards reducing energy consumption and our environmental footprint by replacing all conventional lightbulbs in our lab and auxiliary spaces with LEDs. 🌱 Let’s all do our part to create a greener world. 🌍✨ #PCRL #Sustainability #LEDLighting #EnergyEfficiency #GreenWorld
