Our partners, the South-East European Research Centre (SEERC), spotlighted the story of Sofia Bekatorou, a Greek sailing icon and an advocate for #gender #equality! A two-time Olympic medalist and four-time Olympian, Sofia made history as Greece's first female flag bearer at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Her sailing career is remarkable and her influence reaches beyond sports. In 2020, Sofia started the MeToo Movement in Greece by bravely sharing her story of sexual assault. This courageous act empowered women worldwide to speak out, sparking critical discussions on sexism, power dynamics, and systemic change, particularly in sports. As a leader in the Hellenic Olympic Committee and advocate for domestic violence prevention, Sofia continues to champion change and support survivors. I am excited to share that our paper, "Securing the Right to Health of Asylum Seekers: A Small-Scale Qualitative Case Study in Thessaloniki, Greece," has just been published in the Health and Human Rights Journal. The study contributes to the discourse on health, human rights, and migration law by examining the legal and practical challenges of ensuring access to health for asylum seekers in Greece, in the years preceding the COVID-19 pandemic and thereafter. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and admiration to my co-author and mentor, Professor Tamara Hervey, for her invaluable insights, guidance, and unwavering support throughout our collaboration.
