This year, we are participating in GlobalGiving's #GivingTuesday. On Tuesday 3 December, all donations to Fáilte will be matched by GlobalGiving- meaning every donation to our Centre will be maximized even more! We are also happy to announce that anyone who donates more than €10/ $11 will receive a special Fáilte e-calendar for 2025. Designed by our Fundraising Intern Effi, this calendar showcases some of the wonderful memories we have from 2024. With more organisations limiting their operations and closing their doors in #Greece, we are so grateful to all of our supporters whose generosity allows us to stay operating into 2025. Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of the Fáilte community! We are so grateful to the wonderful volunteers that supported us this summer: Marnee, Amarica and Clare! Marnee Ostoa, a scholar with the Obama Foundation, spent their time with us supporting both our Education Programme as well as led the GED preparation courses with our partner Global Connect Athens. "I am incredibly grateful for having had the opportunity to help support this beautiful community of leaders, students, and migrants. I leave Failté feeling inspired by Colleen, Claire, Kosmas, and all the volunteers who are striving to make this world a better place— and empowered by all the GED students I met, who, like me, are fighting for a chance to make their dreams come true." Visiting us from the U.S., Amarica Rafanelli is studying a MA in Global Policy from The LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin. During her one-month internship with us, Amarica supported with collecting data for our impact report, researching grant opportunities and providing general volunteer support. Clare McCrann, a teacher at Byron College - The British International School, volunteered with us this summer for two months, sharing her love and passion for teaching English with students from around the world. "I’m lucky to have discovered The Fáilte Centre here in Athens. It is inspiring to see how the founders, Colleen & Claire, have created a unique learning space from scratch. The welcoming atmosphere reflects their commitment to effecting real change in people’s lives. Overall, it’s such an enriching experience to meet the staff, clients and other volunteers from around the world." In celebration of this year's Refugee Week Greece, we hosted a special music-themed week where individuals of all levels had the opportunity to learn how to play the clarinet, flute, guitar, trumpet and piano. We are particularly grateful to the very musical Gilbert-Bair family who led the music sessions for a second year in a row. Travelling from the U.S., this family led guitar and piano sessions last year, and were excited to join us again for this year! They also generously donated a clarinet, flute, trumpet and set of recorders to Fáilte. In order to continue offering music to individuals at Fáilte, the family will start online lessons to students who are interested in continuing to learn the instruments they started during the Music Days event. "It was a real gift to spend the week at The Fáilte Centre," said piano teacher, Portia. "Everyone there was so welcoming and we were able to create a special musical community. I am more excited than ever to continue cultivating music within the Fáilte community through zoom lessons!"
