Volunteering is deeply rooted in our corporate culture. We inspire our employees to make a difference, whether by participating in KONČAR Group initiatives, Končar Distribution and Special Transformers Inc. projects, or contributing to the wider community. Inspired by the success of last year’s 'Compensating by Planting' initiative, carried out with the Hearth creative agency, Croatian Forests (Hrvatske šume d.o.o.), and the Croatian Scouting Association, we were delighted to continue this impactful work. For the second year running, we focused our volunteer efforts on reforesting regions affected by natural disasters. Gorski Kotar region, home to the city of Vrbovsko and famous for its forests, was the location of this year’s planting. Sadly, the region has faced an uptick in extreme weather events, with three major natural disasters in recent years destroying vast stretches of fir, beech, and spruce trees. The campaign saw the planting of 1,000 spruce saplings, grown from native seeds by Croatian Forests. As a species indigenous to Gorski Kotar, spruce is ideal for restoring the health and balance of the damaged forest landscape. Having completed our fourth tree-planting campaign in Croatia and internationally, we’re proud to have planted nearly 4,000 trees to date. Our mission to expand this effort remains unwavering. We believe the path to a sustainable future lies in inspiring young minds. On November 14, 2024, under the high patronage of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Hrvatski izvoznici / Croatian Exporters Association celebrated its twentieth anniversary and held the "Platinum Key" award ceremony at the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb. Croatian exporters are a representative body of companies and organizations that work together to promote and represent the interests of Croatian exports, and as part of their activities, they award the "Golden Key" awards to the best exporters for the previous year and the "Platinum Key" for special highlighting of businesses who maintain continuity and excellence in exports. As we have received several "Golden Keys" and "Platinum Keys" over the years, we were subsequently awarded a second "Platinum Key" for export continuity. We are grateful that our continuous efforts and results are confirmed and recognized through this award. Sharing experiences, presenting job opportunities, and hearing new ideas – are the reasons why we participate in events such as the days of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture. Although this is a student-based event, we always leave inspired and happy to see young minds be so interested in the world of transformers. One of the highlights of our three-day visit was participating in Career Speed Dating, where we had the opportunity to meet a variety of students in a fast-paced, one-on-one setting. This unique format allowed us to gain a better understanding of their skills, ambitions, and aspirations. In the sea of good wishes and congratulations we have received on receiving the Golden Marten award (Zlatna kuna) of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (Hrvatska gospodarska komora), we would like to reflect on the one that particularly warmed our hearts. This congratulatory message comes from the Croatian Guide Dog and Mobility Association, our partner with whom we have recently started working on the "Paws of Kindness Make Problems Easier" project, at the end of which a younger user with developmental and health problems will receive an assistance dog. Such sincere thanks and cooperation comes from that invisible thread that connects us more with our hearts than with our minds, but the result of which will be very tangible, visible and measurable. At yesterday's 28th Golden Marten (Zlatna kuna) award ceremony of the Croatian Chamber of Economy (Hrvatska gospodarska komora), which took place in the Croatian National Theatre, we received the Golden Marten as the most successful large trading company in 2023. The Golden Marten of the Croatian Chamber of Economy was established in 1993 and is awarded to Croatian companies, banks and insurance companies for business success and contribution to the Croatian economy as a whole. The plaque is awarded based on the calculation of established indicators, and the overall business image of the companies and their impact on the development of the industry to which they belong are also assessed. In addition to excellent business results, ESG rating results are also evaluated as an additional criterion, where we have also confirmed ourselves as the best example of a sustainable business model in the ESG rating of the Croatian Chamber of Economy. "This award comes in a year in which we operated in complex global conditions, which is the best year in the history of the company's operations in terms of its achieved results. It is the result of the work of our employees and this award belongs to them", said Vanja Burul, President of the Management Board of Končar D&ST.
