The journey towards a safer and more digitally secure Indonesia is a collective effort—one that begins with education, awareness, and empowerment. At Cisometric, we believe that nurturing future professionals and raising public awareness about digital security are pivotal to tackle cybersecurity challenges. Last week, we proudly collaborated with Yayasan Generasi Maju Berkarya, a leading non-profit organization focused on empowering young women through education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), as well as Amartha. Together, we hosted the Cybersecurity Masterclass on Personal Data Privacy (PDP) as part of their Computer Science Week: Ready, Set, Code! It was a special opportunity for both organizations as we worked towards fostering the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. About the Event 💻💡 The Cybersecurity Masterclass on Personal Data Privacy was held as an interactive online workshop, aiming to provide participants with a strong foundational understanding of how personal data privacy plays a vital role in today’s digital society. With the rising threat of data breaches and misuse, protecting personal information is no longer just a technical concern—it’s a fundamental necessity for individuals, organizations, and society as a whole. The workshop was part of the Computer Science Week—an initiative dedicated to making technology education accessible, fun, and empowering. Focused on beginner to intermediate learners, the event featured a lineup of engaging materials delivered by industry professionals to help participants level up their skills and open doors to new opportunities. Cisometric served as both a knowledge partner and mentor for the event, contributing expertise and learning materials to guide the session. The class was led by Ilafi Firsta Putri, Cisometric’s experienced IT GRC Consultant, who walked participants through the essentials of the topic. The Cybersecurity Masterclass specifically honed in on Personal Data Privacy (PDP)—an increasingly relevant topic following the enactment of Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Act (UU PDP). Recently, another alarming cyber scamming trend is on the rise, impersonating the Direktorat Jenderal Pajak (DJP)—our official tax authority. By exploiting the authority and credibility of DJP, fraudsters now target taxpayers through deceptive communications that appear authentic, such as fake tax billing emails, overdue payment warnings, refund notifications, or intimidating penalty alerts. At the heart of these attacks lies a technique called spoofing. Spoofing is a form of digital fraud where scammers falsify elements of communication—such as email headers, website URLs, or phone numbers—to make it appear as though the message is coming from a trusted source. In the context of DJP scams, scammers use email spoofing to mimic DJP's official email (@pajak.go.id) and send fake communications that appear credible at first glance. Becoming an emergency contact for an online loan (pinjaman online / pinjol) often happens in ways you might never expect. Borrowers, in their rush to secure a loan, are frequently required to provide emergency contacts to complete their application. While this might seem like a mere formality, the way many borrowers go about it can lead to significant consequences for others. In many cases, borrowers don’t think twice about whose numbers they include. They might scroll through their phone books and pick a name at random, copy a number from a package delivery label, or even use numbers found on social media profiles. Some don’t even notify the people they’ve listed, let alone ask for their permission. You may never even know you’ve been listed until the borrower is having difficulties on their loan and collection agencies start calling you. These collectors, especially those working for illegal or unregulated lenders, often bypass the borrower entirely and target emergency contacts instead. Their goal? To use pressure tactics—such as repeated calls, intimidating messages, or even threats—to push you into persuading the borrower to repay their debt. What makes this even more frustrating is that, legally, emergency contacts are not responsible for the borrower’s loan. However, that doesn’t stop collectors from treating you as though you are. You might find yourself dealing with relentless communication, stress, and confusion, all for a situation you didn’t consent to be part of. Worse still, if this happens through an illegal loan service, there’s often little regard for ethical or legal boundaries, leaving you vulnerable to online terror and invasion of privacy.
