Facilitator training has started! for the second phase of our project on promoting engagement and empowerment for caregivers of young children with disabilities. In this phase of this The World Bank Group supported project, Empatika, with Total Mind Learning, will be implementing a caregiver training program in 13 cities/regencies across Indonesia using caregiver guidelines we have developed to help parents and caregivers better understand, be supported, and more effectively navigate the caregiving challenges they face. 2024 was a challenging but meaningful year for Empatika, with projects spanning #SocialWelfare, #Education, #Health, #Environment, and even #Music. Themes of empowerment, engagement, and inclusion were central to our work and findings throughout the year. As we welcome 2025, we’re excited to expand our #TrainingOpportunities, helping equip more people with skills, strategies, and sensitivities for better engagement and research. This initiative is part of the Breathe Cities Programme, which supports cities worldwide in tackling air pollution and cutting climate emissions. 💡 About Breathe Cities Delivered by Clean Air Fund, C40 Cities, and Bloomberg Philanthropies, Breathe Cities drives clean air and climate action through: 🔍 Data and Research: Expanding local air quality data and open-source insights. 📋 Technical Policy Assistance: Supporting clean air policies with technical expertise and capacity building. 🌍 Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Collaborating with grassroots organizations to amplify community voices. 📖 Lesson Sharing: Spreading insights to inspire cities globally to act. This project, developed in collaboration with Techne Praxis International and Empatika Research, includes two key phases: Phase 1: Feasibility Assessment of Kawasan Rendah Emisi Terpadu (KRE-T) – evaluating the possibilities and challenges of establishing an integrated low emission area in Jakarta. Phase 2: Development of a comprehensive Roadmap for KRE-T Implementation – setting out clear actions to achieve Jakarta’s clean air and climate goals. Children with disabilities (CwD) in Indonesia, like in many countries, face significant barriers to education, with many unable to enroll due to exclusion, discrimination, or a lack of information and support. Empatika, working with Total Mind Learning and supported by the World Bank, conducted a study to explore the experiences of parents and caregivers in supporting their CwD, including parents’ approaches to dealing with their child's condition, sources of information, and available support. The study also examined school environments, gathering insights from teachers and principals, and reviewed policies impacting CwD’s education in Indonesia to shed light on how parents and children interact with essential education, health, and social services. This study is part of a larger World Bank project aimed at promoting parental engagement in early childhood education for CwD, including through the use of assistive technology. Empatika is now working on the second phase, which focuses on developing and implementing a caregiver training program to empower parents and caregivers to more effectively understand and navigate the caregiving challenges they face. In this post, we'd like to share some of the experiences parents face in supporting children with disabilities, from recognizing their child's needs to navigating school enrollment.
